Liverpool will look to maintain their position at the top of the Premier League table going into the final international break of the year when they host Aston Villa tonight (8pm kick-off). And they could be playing Unai Emery's men at the perfect time.

Villa have been transformed since Emery replaced Liverpool legend Steven Gerrard in the manager's hotseat, leading the club to a top-four finish last season and producing a famous Champions League win over Bayern Munich this season.

But they arrive at Anfield on the back of a four-match winless run in all competitions, which includes three straight defeats.

However, one look at the Villa line-up Emery selects tonight will serve as a warning against any danger of complacency within the Reds' ranks.

The Villa Park outfit boast a talented squad but for former Liverpool and England right-back Glen Johnson, there is one player in particular he would bring to his old club.

Speaking to 10bet, Johnson said: "If I could take one Aston Villa player and put them in the Liverpool squad, I would take Youri Tielemans.

"He's been banging on the door to be mentioned with the best for a long time. I think he's still got a bit more to give.

"In terms of technical ability, footballing brain, he's the sort of player that I think could just slot into Liverpool and you wouldn't even notice that he was new.

"He could be the sort of player that they need, even. Maybe not a starting place, but with the amount of games they’ve got, he’d get a lot of football."

Belgium international midfielder Tielemans was initially a doubt for tonight's game. He started and finished Villa's 1-0 Champions League defeat to Club Brugge in his homeland on Wednesday.

But he picked up a knee injury that means he will not meet up with Belgium during the international break. However, he been named in Emery's starting XI.

It is unknown if Liverpool are looking to sign a midfielder given the form of the likes of Ryan Gravenberch. But they did attempt to bring in Martin Zubimendi from Real Sociedad in the summer.

The Spain international agreed to join the Reds only to make a U-turn on his decision and remain with his hometown club.
