Simon Jordan in shock U-turn over Ryan Reynolds' Wrexham ownership
Former Crystal Palace owner Simon Jordan has revealed a surprising U-turn in his views on Wrexham co-owners Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney.
The Red Dragons have enjoyed huge success with the Hollywood pair at the helm, achieving back-to-back promotions under Phil Parkinson in their last two campaigns.
However, talkSPORT host Jordan has often been reluctant to give credit to the actors in the past. During an on-air discussion in March this year, the 57-year-old made a number of disparaging comments about the owners.

In a jibe at their comparative levels of fame, he said: “They've got huge interest because a lot of people look at Ryan Reynolds. The other fella, he carries his bag.”
He also questioned the pair’s long-term commitment to the club, stating: “When he (Reynolds) shuffles off back to polishing his Hollywood star and is no longer interested, we'll see how long that interest stays with Wrexham.”
Jordan’s comments saw co-presenter Jim White accuse him of being jealous of the owners and attracted criticism from Wrexham’s passionate fanbase. But he now seems to have had a change of heart despite still being unwilling to refer to McElhenney by name.
Speaking on talkSPORT today, Jordan said: “Wrexham were a non-league football club that has been turned into something unique, as a result of Ryan Reynolds and his mate turning it into a Disneyfication of sport.
“My attitude towards it at the time was, okay, let's watch it and see how it goes.
“Let's see how much their attitude and their appetite is there when it gets serious and whether they have the appetite to get into the Championship.
“What I have learned subsequently is the metrics of what they are achieving through the commercial element. You turn on a film like Deadpool, and you see a Welsh Deadpool walking around in one of the scenes. They've been able to monetise it beyond the levels that I'd anticipated.”
Reynolds and McElhenney have made no secret of their ambitious goal of taking Wrexham to the Premier League.
Their aspirations have been mocked in some quarters, with former Watford striker Troy Deeney predicting that the North Wales side will “never” be promoted to the top flight.
In a video shared on the CBS Sports’ TikTok page this weekend, he said: “If they make it within five years, I’ll give £1,000 to any charity that (CBS) choose.”
However, Jordan has backed Wrexham to achieve an unprecedented third successive promotion this term and potentially go further.
He said: “I think they'll get promoted again this season, which means they're in the Championship.
“The Championship is a serious division, because there's billionaires in that division, and there's clubs of heritage and legacy.
“But I wouldn’t put it past Wrexham to have the momentum. They’ve got the commercial interest in America, they’ve got the commercial sponsorships via the social media presence, to be able to achieve quite a lot.”
