Simon Jordan speaks out on Frank Lampard's Coventry City ‘credentials’ with Wayne Rooney comparison
Frank Lampard cannot be put in “the same bracket” as Wayne Rooney as a manager, says Simon Jordan.
Coventry City owner Doug King has confirmed Lampard has applied for the top job at the CBS Arena in the wake of Mark Robins’ departure. And talkSPORT pundit Jordan thinks the former Derby County, Chelsea and Everton boss has got better credentials than Rooney as he compared the managerial careers so far of the two England playing greats.
The pair both stepped into management at Derby, with Lampard enjoying success at Pride Park and leading them to the Championship play-offs final in his one season in charge of the Rams. Rooney endured relegation during his Derby reign, but a comparison to Lampard’s tenure is unfair because the Rams were in administration and were docked points when Rooney was at the helm.

While Lampard stepped up from Derby to manage in the Premier League, however, Rooney was sacked after 15 matches in charge of Birmingham City last season and is currently in charge of Plymouth, who are below Coventry in the Championship.
"I always thought that because of the nature of intellect that lurks behind Frank, that he would be a good manager," Jordan said on talkSPORT. "He's still yet to prove that. He's got more credentials in terms of the comparison that you want to make than Wayne (Rooney) has got. Ironically at the same club, because Wayne's predominant credentials were Derby.
"I don't think DC United gave him any credentials. So coming to Plymouth on the back of another one that seemed to suggest previous records don't make any difference... didn't make a lot of sense.
"I don't think you can put Frank Lampard in quite the same bracket because I think he did have a decent time at Derby, he got them to the play-offs."
