Sir Jim Ratcliffe celebrated Bruno Fernandes' 250th appearance for Manchester United by presenting the midfielder with a commemorative shirt on Sunday afternoon.

The 30-year-old Portugal international reached the landmark milestone in Sunday's Premier League clash against Leicester City at Old Trafford. Fernandes moved to Old Trafford from Sporting CP in January 2020 and has virtually been ever-present since under managers Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, Ralf Rangnick and Erik ten Hag.

Remarkably, since September 2020, the Portugal international has featured in 156 out of a possible 163 Premier League matches for United. Before kick-off on Sunday afternoon, such impressive durability and availability was celebrated as INEOS chief Ratcliffe made his way to the touchline to present Fernandes with a signed and framed United shirt with 'Fernandes 250' on the back.

The frame also featured pictures of the United captain's best moments at the club over the last four-and-a-half years. Speaking ahead of Sunday's game against the Foxes, interim manager Ruud van Nistelrooy paid tribute to Fernandes and the standards he sets at Carrington on a daily basis.

"If you think about it, January 2020, coming in, to November 2024 and there's no need to explain how fit you have to be, to play all these games," he told MUTV. "But also how professional you are. He is an example, how he lives the game, as a professional, and, of course, as a captain leading the team.

"Within that, as being a role model in how to be the best professional you can be and also helping others in many situations - on and off the pitch. He's a great example and a great captain."

Fernandes will join up with the Portuguese national team after Sunday's game and his return to United later this month will come as part of a new era, with Ruben Amorim taking the reigns from November 11.
