Smith takes crown for fastest ever Town goal
Swindon Town striker Harry Smith scored the fastest recordable goal in the club’s history with his opener against MK Dons.
Ollie Clarke’s cross found the 6’5 striker just inside the six yard box and his header beat Dons keeper Tom McGill to put the Robins 1-0 up in just 16 seconds.
It was confirmed by www.townenders.com that the goal was the fastest ever recorded.
Sol Pryce previously held the record for his first goal in what was a dream debut double in a 3-2 win over Stevenage in November 2018.
The now-Highworth Town striker put Richie Wellens’ side into the lead with 18 seconds on the clock.
Jacob Wakeling came the closest to breaking the record in August 2022, as his goal against Rochdale was on 25 seconds, which put him in third place.
Striker Jimmy Kelly was in between them in second, thanks to his goal in the 22nd second in 1958 against Bradford City.
Further down the list, other players such as Iffy Onoura and James Collins find themselves on the tally for some of the fastest goals in the team’s history.
Onoura’s goal in 1999 was a bizarre one, as his left-footed volley appeared as an easy catch for the Port Vale keeper, but he dropped it over the goal line in a costly mistake.
Collins’ effort was the difference between Town and Bury in 2012 as he tried his luck from the right outside corner of the box and successfully found the top left corner.
