Sons of Anarchy Reunion: Ryan Hurst Among Cast Additions to Kurt Sutter’s Netflix Western The Abandons

We can’t resurrect Opie Winston, but we’ll take this as a close second.

Sons of Anarchy alum Ryan Hurst — who played fan-favorite character Opie on the FX drama — is reteaming with series creator Kurt Sutter for Sutter’s upcoming Netflix series The Abandons.

According to our sister publication Variety, which first reported the news, Hurst is one of four actors to join the Western drama, along with Michiel Huisman (Game of Thrones), Michael Greyeyes (Rutherford Falls) and Toby Hemingway (The Crossing). Details about the quartet’s roles are not yet available, but all four actors will recur on the series, which has a 10-episode order at the streamer.

According to its official synopsis, The Abandons follows a group of “diverse, outlier families as they pursue their Manifest Destiny in 1850s Oregon, as a corrupt force of wealth and power, coveting their land, tries to force them out. These abandoned souls, the kind of lost souls living on the fringe of society, unite their tribes to form a family and fight back. In this bloody process, ‘justice’ is stretched beyond the boundaries of the law. The Abandons will explore that fine line between survival and law, the consequences of violence, and the corrosive power of secrets, as this family fights to keep their land.”

Thursday’s cast additions join an already-robust ensemble, led by The X-Files‘ Gillian Anderson and Game of Thrones‘ Lena Headey. Other cast members include Lucas Till (MacGyver), Clayton Cardenas (Mayans MC), Natalia del Riego (NCIS: Los Angeles), Nick Robinson (Maid), Diana Silvers (Space Force), Lamar Johnson (The Last of Us) and Aisling Franciosi (The Fall).
