What Sporting supporters did to Ruben Amorim in first game after Man United switch speaks volumes
Ruben Amorim was applauded by Sporting CP supporters as he took to the touchline just hours after being confirmed as Manchester United's new head coach.
The 39-year-old will become the sixth permanent manager since Sir Alex Ferguson left the club when he begins his role at Old Trafford on November 11.
But after his appointment was made official at noon on Friday, Amorim still had three games to oversee with the Lisbon outfit before the international break later this month.

The first of those came on Friday night as Sporting CP welcomed Estrela da Amadora to the Estadio Jose Alvalade, hoping to maintain their 100% start to the Liga Portugal season.
And when he took to the touchline ahead of the game, Amorim was applauded by all four corners of the Estadio Jose as the Sporting CP supporters made their feelings clear on Manchester United's new head coach.
On Wednesday night, Amorim will oversee his final game on home turf as Sporting CP host Manchester City in the Champions League. His final game in charge of the club will come against his former side Braga on Sunday, November 10.
United agreed a compensation package with Sporting CP to cut short Amorim's notice period, with the Portuguese beginning his two-and-a-half-year deal with the Reds on November 11.
His first game charge of United will come on November 24 at Ipswich Town.
