Liverpool loanee Stefan Bajcetic has posted a positive message as he continues his development away from Merseyside. The Spaniard made his third appearance for Spain's under-21s on Tuesday, helping La Roja to a 2-1 win over Denmark in an international friendly.

The 20-year-old is currently on loan at RB Salzburg after he was lured to the Austrian Bundesliga by former Reds assistant manager Pep Lijnders. Bajcetic has suffered from injuries in recent years, following his breakout campaign during an injury-hit season for Liverpool, and with the Dutchman taking fresh steps in professional management, he called upon the midfielder.

It has been a difficult start for the 17-time Austria top-flight champions picking up 18 points in their opening 11 - leaving them fourth in the table. Lijnders led Salzburg to the Champions League group stages, after navigating through a tricky qualification campaign, but it has been a tough welcome - losing their opening three before their 3-1 win over Feyenoord last time out.

Following a difficult 18 months with injury, it was another big step for Bajcetic during the international break adding two more caps to his under-21s tally. His cameo against England, during their 0-0 draw on Friday, was his first appearance for La Roja since September 2023.

He started for Santi Denia's side, who made 225 league appearances for Atletico Madrid during his playing career, and in a post on Instagram, he wrote: "Always with pride."

The talented midfielder faces a difficult decision in the summer as he has to choose over club or country. If Bajcetic returns to Merseyside, he can look to help guide Spain to U21 European Championships success or remain in Salzburg and embark on their Club World Cup campaign.

He told Marca: "Being on loan at Salzburg and Liverpool not going to the Club World Cup, I have the option to choose between returning to Liverpool or playing the Club World Cup with Salzburg.

"If I go back to Liverpool, I have the option to come to the U21 European Championship and that would be something I would really like to do.

"I missed the Olympics and European Championship last year due to injury, I have never been to a tournament like this with the national team, I am really looking forward to it."
