There will be no days off for manager Steve Cooper as he seeks to right the wrongs that led to loud boos at the end of Leicester City’s 3-0 defeat to Manchester United.

City now have a two-week break to their next fixture – Enzo Maresca’s return to the King Power Stadium with Chelsea – but there is no time to relax for Cooper. He still has a fanbase to win over.

After their heaviest loss of the Premier League season, the final whistle was met with boos from the away end at Old Trafford. There had been chants during the game of “Cooper, sort it out!”, last heard so clearly at Walsall in September.

Those sorts of negative responses from supporters are not new for the manager, but convincing sections of the fanbase they are on the right track remains an issue. It means there’s lots of work to be done in the next fortnight, even if there are no matches to prepare for.

“It’s a 3-0 defeat and you’re not going to get cheered off whether you’re here at Old Trafford or anywhere else,” Cooper said. “Like I’ve said before, I have no problem with any fan’s reaction, good or bad, as they’re entitled to that, especially with three away games, the money they spend, and their commitment.

“I have a lot of respect for that, regardless of what they may feel. Like everything else, I’ll accept any situation and be motivated to help it to feel better and get better and keep going with what we believe.

“We’ve got the international break now to work with the players who are with us. We’ll do extra work off the pitch in terms of reviewing, taking stock, planning, and getting ready for when we recommence. There might be some let-off in terms of getting ready for games, because there is no game next weekend, but there won’t be any days off for the staff.”

The defeat, combined with Ipswich’s win at Tottenham, leaves City three points and three places above the relegation zone. Their run of scoring in every Premier League game this season has also come to an end, leaving just Manchester City as the only side to hold that record.
