Steven Gerrard discovers Al Ettifaq sack fate as axe falls on Rangers ally
Steven Gerrard is still clinging onto his Al-Ettifaq job despite a horror run of results.
But the ex-Rangers boss has been dealt a major blow after losing two close allies from his backroom team. Gerrard's side have endured a difficult campaign and sit 11th in the Saudi Pro League with just 11 points from 10 games. That's seen the Liverpool legend come under fire from his own fans, with footage emerging online of Gerrard being booed off the park after losing 2-0 to local rivals Al Qadsiah earlier this month.
Yet while calls for Gerrard to be sacked continue to grow, Al-Ettifaq chiefs have decided to stand by the manager. However, it was confirmed that ex-Ibrox sporting director Mark Allen and assistant manager Dean Holden have both been axed.

"The chairman, Mr Sameer Almisehal, reaffirmed that the board is fully committed to supporting the technical staff and players in their efforts to improve the club's position in the league and to secure a top spot in the Gulf Champions League.
"He also expressed his apologies to Ettifaq fans for the disappointing exit from the King Cup. The board and everyone at the club deeply appreciate the unwavering support of Ettifaq fans despite recent unsatisfactory results. We remain optimistic that better results are on the horizon."
