Liverpool legend Steven Gerrard has backed Mohamed Salah to stay at Anfield beyond the end of this season when his current contract expires and keep breaking records with the Reds.

"He’s obsessed with the game," Gerrard said while speaking on The Redmen TV’s live charity stream for Zoe's Place on Wednesday. The children's charity is at risk of closure, and there is a city-wide appeal to raise vital funds.

"I think you can see his body shape, you can see his routine," Gerrard continued. "I obviously follow his social media, and I talk to a lot of people. I always pick John’s (Achterberg) brain on what was he like on a daily basis and John says, ‘Oh, he’s really obsessed to be the best and he wants to break records, he wants to be remembered as the best’.

"So I’m not surprised in terms of how he approaches his profession and I think he’s going to be one of these players that we’ll all appreciate even more when the day eventually comes when he moves on.

"I hope we still get another couple of years of Mo Salah. I think he can deliver for many more years because of his shape, his professionalism. So I hope he stays; I hope we get more out of him."

One option for Salah would be to join the Saudi Pro League if he doesn't pen an extension with Liverpool, with Gerrard, of course, managing in that division these days. But it doesn't sound like he expects that to happen.

Indeed, it isn't thought that moving to Saudi Arabia would be top of Salah's agenda at this point in his career. The Egyptian still feels that he can make a difference at the very top level of the game, which would likely mean staying in Europe.

"We put all our schedule around the Liverpool games," Gerrard joked. "The players are onto me now, we’ve been training at nine and 10 at night!"

Liverpool.com says: Getting Salah tied down to an extension is a no-brainer for Liverpool when you consider how important he still is. Losing him for nothing would be a nightmare scenario when it comes to trying to replace him. Doing so even with money to reinvest would be one thing but attempting to do it without would make that task even harder.
