Stoke City legend claims medal at World Taekwondo Championships
Mike Pejic is returning from Hong Kong with a World Taekwondo Poomsae Championships silver medal.
The Stoke City legend and straight-talking StokeonTrentLive columnist, aged 74, has helped Great Britain to a runners-up spot behind the United States in the over-60s team division.
Pejic, Colin Larkin and Ali Pourtaheri saw Australia and Argentina into a joint-third in competition at the Hong Kong Coliseum as Joseph Coughlin, Ronald Southwick and Dan Williams won gold for the US.

Pejic grew up in Chesterton and made his name as a hard-tackling defender under Tony Waddington at Stoke, winning England recognition before helping Everton compete for top honours. He took up taekwondo in the 1990s while coaching in Kuwait, opened an academy back home in the Potteries and was persuaded to start competing in tournaments in 2012.
He was crowned European over-65s champion in 2019, three years after he had claimed silver at the World Championships, controversially missing out on the top spot on the podium.
Poomsae taekwondo sees competitors start routines with a score of 10 and judges knock off points based on stances, blocks, punches and kicks.
Pejic, who has recently been awarded his sixth Dan black belt, was crowned national over-70s individual champion and team over-60s champions last month. He is a fierce campaigner for competitions to remain open to older competitors.
