Stoke City ready to consult fans on potential major change and what is needed for go-ahead
Stoke City are preparing to hold consultation events with supporters at the end of this season about a potential change to the club badge - and would need to find a clear consensus to go ahead with any new design.
Stoke has had its current minimalist crest since 2001, having worn the city’s coat of arms on its shirt for the previous nine years, and it is emblazoned on everything from kit and merchandise to the stadium and around the training ground.
The club is open to exploring, however, if supporters are happy with the design. The consultation alone will be a major process and if a change was implemented it would be unlikely to be rolled out in one fell swoop.

Stoke will follow guidelines from the FA and EFL and hold workshops and fan assemblies as well as getting in touch with supporters via digital surveys.
An update from Stoke following a meeting of Stoke City Connect, a representative group of supporters, states: "The club is required to evidence a majority of fans being in favour prior to registering any change."
It added: "Subject to the associated costs, the working assumption was that the consultation would commence during the summer months following the conclusion of the 24/25 season, however an earlier date might be considered. Dialogue with fans (is) sure to be concerted and varied throughout the process and would be seen as a two-way conversation.
"Lead-in periods for kit manufacture, as well as the cost and phasing of rebranding physical assets, would also come under consideration."
