Sweat drafted by the Titans in second round

Apr. 27—DETROIT — Huntsville football saw a former attendee drafted in the second round of the NFL draft on Friday evening.

T'Vondre Sweat received the call from the Tennessee Titans at pick 38 to begin his NFL career after five years at the University of Texas and four years playing in the green and white for Huntsville.

Sweat returned to Texas for a fifth year and turned things around. The former Hornet won the Outland Trophy for best lineman in College Football last season and was named the BIG 12 Defensive Player of the Year.

In his super senior season, Sweat grabbed 45 total tackles, eight of which were for a loss, and two sacks. He was a main part of the Longhorns defensive line. Sweat was the Pro Football Focus' highest-rated defensive tackle in 2023 with a 91.7.

Now, Sweat heads to Nashville and will join the Titans on a likely four-year deal. Huntsville fans will have an opportunity to see the former Hornet play at NRG Stadium this season as the Titans and Texans will play at least once in Houston this year.
