USA swimming medals count: How the Americans fared in the pool at Paris Olympics

The 2024 Paris Olympics went swimmingly for Team USA.

Team USA Swimming raced its way to 28 Olympic medals in the pool at Paris La Défense Arena, bringing in eight gold, 13 silver and seven bronze. Team USA had the most swimming medals, as well as the most gold medals, of any country in Paris.

Australia had the second-most swimming medals with 18 (seven golds), followed by China (12), Canada (eight) and France (seven).

Here's every medal won by Team USA in the pool, broken down by the color of each medal:

Team USA's gold medals in swimming

  • Men's 4x100-meter relay, July 27: Team USA's first gold medal of the Paris Games came in the men's 4x100-meter relay. The team of Jack Alexy, Chris Guiliano, Hunter Armstrong and Caeleb Dressel posted a blistering 3:09.28 time to win gold. Australia won silver and Italy raced to bronze.

  • Women's 100-meter butterfly, July 28: American swimmer Torri Huske won gold, her first career gold medal, in 55.59 seconds. Teammate Gretchen Walsh finished with silver and China's Zhang Yufei won bronze.

  • Women's 1,500-meter free, July 31: Katie Ledecky won gold in dominant fashion, setting an Olympic record of 15:30.02. France's Anastasiya Kirpichnikova and Germany's Isabel Gose won silver and bronze, respectively. Ledecky also won the event at the Tokyo Olympics in 2021.

  • Women's 200-meter breaststroke, Aug. 1: U.S. swimmer Kate Douglass is officially an Olympic champion, winning the women’s 200-meter breaststroke final with a time of 2:19. 24 — setting an American record. South Africa's Tatjana Smith finished with silver and the Netherlands' Tes Schouten got bronze.

  • Women's 800-meter freestyle, Aug. 3: Katie Ledecky won her fourth consecutive Olympic gold medal in the event, completing her week with her fourth medal in Paris and 14th in her Olympic career. Ledecky is one of seven Olympians with gold medals in the same event in four different Games, and among five Americans to do so (joining Vincent Hancock, Michael Phelps, Carl Lewis and Al Oerter).

  • Mixed 4x100-meter relay, Aug. 3: The team of Ryan Murphy (backstroke), Nic Fink (breaststroke), Gretchen Walsh (butterfly) and Torri Huske (freestyle) set a new world record in the event, winning by .04 seconds over China.

  • Men's 1,500-meter freestyle, Aug. 4: Bobby Finke defended his Olympic title, breaking the world record in a race he never trailed in to win gold.

  • Women's 4x100-meter medley relay, Aug 4: The team of Regan Smith (backstroke), Lilly King (breaststroke), Gretchen Walsh (butterfly) and Torri Huske (freestyle) broke the world record to win gold in the final swimming event.

Team USA's silver medals in swimming

  • Women's 4x100-meter relay, July 27: Team USA, made up of Kate Douglass, Gretchen Walsh, Torri Huske and Simone Manuel, secured silver behind Australia. China finished with bronze.

  • Women's 100 butterfly, July 28: Gretchen Walsh won the silver in 55.63 seconds, trailing only fellow American Torri Huske. China's Zhang Yufei won bronze.

  • Men's 100-meter breaststroke, July 28: Nic Fink finally won himself an Olympic medal, tying world record holder Adam Peaty of Great Britain for silver in the men’s 100-meter breaststroke final. Italy's Nicolò Martinenghi won the gold.

  • Women's 400-meter IM, July 29: Katie Grimes won silver in the 400-meter individual medley, with Canada's Summer McIntosh finishing first. Fellow American Emma Weyant earned bronze.

  • Women’s 100-meter backstroke, July 30: Regan Smith raced to a silver medal in the women’s 100-meter backstroke. Smith was out-touched by Australian Kaylee McKeown, who won back-to-back golds. American Katharine Berkoff finished with a bronze.

  • Men's 800-meter freestyle, July 30: Distance swimmer Bobby Finke wasn't able to defend his title in the 800-meter free. The American record holder in the men's 800-meter freestyle finished second in the event to win silver behind Ireland's Daniel Wiffen. Italy's Gregorio Paltrinieri picked up bronze.

  • Men's 4x200-meter relay, July 30: Team USA, made up of swimmers Luke Hobson, Carson Foster, Drew Kibler and Kieran Smith, raced to silver in the event final. Great Britain earned gold for the second consecutive Olympics, while Australia finished with bronze.

  • Women’s 100-meter freestyle, July 31: Torri Huske pulled off an absolute stunner to win silver in the event final. Sweden's Sarah Sjöström picked up gold and Hong Kong's Siobhán Haughey earned bronze. This is the second individual medal of the Paris Games for Huske following her first Olympic gold in the women’s 100-meter butterfly final on Sunday. Huske also won silver as part of the women's 4x100 freestyle relay on Saturday.

  • Women's 200-meter butterfly, Aug. 1: Regan Smith took home the silver medal in the 200-meter butterfly, her second of the Paris Games after picking up a silver in the 100-meter backstroke final. Canada's Summer McIntosh raced to gold, while China's Zhang Yufei earned bronze.

  • Women's 4x200-meter relay, Aug 1: Team USA, made up of Claire Weinstein, Paige Madden, Katie Ledecky and Erin Gemmell, posted a 7:40.86 time to win the silver medal in the relay event. Australia topped the podium with a new Olympic record, while China won bronze.

  • Women’s 200-meter butterfly, Aug. 2: Regan Smith finished second to win silver with a 2:04.26 race, marking her third silver medal in Paris. Australian star Kaylee McKeown swept the women’s backstroke events at the Olympics for the second consecutive Games, winning the 200m backstroke final with a time of 2:03.73, an Olympic record. Canadian Kylie Masse was fast enough for bronze.

  • Women's 200-meter individual medley, Aug. 3: Kate Douglass won the silver finishing behind Canadian Summer McIntosh, who won her third gold of the Paris Olympics.

  • Men's 4x100-meter medley relay, Aug. 4: Ryan Murphy (backstroke), Nic Fink (breaststroke), Caeleb Dressel (butterfly) and Hunter Armstrong (freestyle) earned silver.

Team USA's bronze medals in swimming

  • Women’s 400-meter freestyle, July 27: Katie Ledecky added to her remarkable résumé with a bronze medal in the much-anticipated race, finishing behind Australia's Ariarne Titmus and Canada's Summer McIntosh.

  • Men's 400-meter IM, July 28: Carson Foster took bronze in the men's 400 individual medley. Foster finished behind France's Léon Marchand and Japan's Tomoyuki Matsushita.

  • Men's 200-meter freestyle, July 29: Luke Hobson won bronze for his first Olympic medal in the men's 200-meter freestyle. Romania's David Popovici won gold and Great Britain's Matthew Richards took silver.

  • Men's 100-meter backstroke, July 29: Ryan Murphy extended his Olympic medal streak, marking his second consecutive Olympic bronze medal in the 100-meter backstroke. Italy's Thomas Ceccon won gold and China's Xu Jiayu took home silver. Murphy won gold in the men's 100-meter backstroke at the 2016 Rio Olympics.

  • Women’s 400-meter IM, July 29: Emma Weyant won bronze in the women’s 400-meter individual medley, behind Canada's Summer McIntosh and fellow American Katie Grimes.

  • Women’s 100-meter backstroke, July 30: Katharine Berkoff won a bronze medal in the women’s 100-meter backstroke, finishing behind Australian Kaylee McKeown and teammate Regan Smith.

  • Women's 800-meter freestyle, Aug. 3: Paige Madden earned the bronze medal in an event that was won by U.S. teammate Katie Ledecky.
