Arsenal have been told by one of their former players the two Premier League strikers they should target this summer in the transfer market.

The Gunners are currently battling to win the Premier League title against Manchester City, with Liverpool recently losing ground in the title race. Arsenal are top of the table after the victory over Tottenham Hotspur in the North London Derby at the weekend, one point clear of Man City who have a game in hand.

There has been speculation ever since last summer that Arsenal could be in the market for a new striker. Manager Mikel Arteta currently has Gabriel Jesus, Kai Havertz and Eddie Nketiah as their recognised centre-forward options in the squad, although Havertz has often been utilised in midfield this season.

Two players that have often been linked with a move to Arsenal in recent months are Aston Villa striker Ollie Watkins and Brentford star Ivan Toney. And now the Gunners have been told why both forwards would be ideal options in the transfer market this summer.

Former Arsenal defender Philippe Senderos - who also played for Aston Villa in the Premier League - has explained why both Watkins and Toney should be considered by the hierarchy at the Emirates Stadium if the club are looking to sign a striker this summer.

"We talked for years about [Man] City not having a real number nine, but they were winning both before and after they brought in Erling Haaland," Senderos told OLBG.

"For Arsenal, they probably need a player that can guarantee you 20 goals, but those types of players who can score 20 goals in the first season in the Premier League are very rare.

"I think Ivan Toney and Ollie Watkins are the type of players that have proved it in the Premier League. They could be a good fit. But then again, they have to fit into the philosophy of what Arsenal are trying to do - and also financially.

"Ollie Watkins is a great finisher. This year he has been really on form, he’s one of the key elements of Aston Villa’s success."
