Thomas Partey withdraws from Ghana squad but Arsenal fans should not worry
Arsenal midfielder Thomas Partey has withdrawn from international duty, but Gunners fans should not be concerned.
Partey has enjoyed a fine start to the season, starting every one of Arsenal's Premier League fixtures having established himself as key to Mikel Arteta's midfield alongside Declan Rice.
Ghana are set to face Sudan in back-to-back Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers, on Thursday October 10 and Monday, October 14, but Partey will miss out after opting to stay with the Gunners.
A statement from the Ghana FA read: "Thomas is unable to join the Black Stars due to medical issues he is currently experiencing, and his club has scheduled him for further tests in the coming days."
Partey is one of four players to pull out of the squad, but the midfielder is not expected to be sidelined for long.
Standard Sport understands Partey is suffering from an illness and should recover in full before the Premier League season resumes.
Kai Havertz on Monday withdrew from the Germany squad and is also not expected to be sidelined for long.
Arsenal are next in action on Saturday, October 19 with a trip to Bournemouth at 5.30pm.
