Sam Greenwood is building up an impressive body of work at Leeds United's Championship rivals Preston North End. The attacker has four goal contributions to his name in 12 league appearances.

Greenwood also scored a brace in the Lilywhites' comprehensive Carabao Cup win at Harrogate Town. His consistent performances and fine attacking returns in front of goal has led to Greenwood establishing himself as a key member of Paul Heckingbottom's first team squad.

A little over a fortnight ago, Greenwood was asked about his Whites future. “I am not really thinking about it just yet," said Greenwood. "I have just got to see what happens and obviously keep my performances up. It is just opportunities. If I went back there, it depends if I get those opportunities from the manager."

Preston reportedly have an option-to-buy inserted in the Greenwood loan deal. That arrangement could be affected if the Whites gain promotion back to the Premier League.

Not since August 2023 has Greenwood played a competitive match for the Whites. Given the embarrassment of attacking riches Daniel Farke has at his disposal, there is no evidence to suggest that Greenwood will be given an opportunity in the near future to reignite his United career.

Greenwood has played 35 times for the West Yorkshire outfit since joining the club for a reported £1.5m from Arsenal three years ago. His present Whites deal runs until the summer of 2026.

It is good news for United if Greenwood keeps on doing the business at Deepdale. The more assists and goals Greenwood keeps contributing, the more his transfer value goes up. It is the ideal scenario if United are planning on cashing in on him in the next couple of windows.

And Greenwood has got the ideal opportunity to put himself in the shop window in the next six months. If he carries on performing well for the Lilywhites, other clubs will take note. Not to mention that he can do his parent club a big favour by helping Preston take points off the Whites' direct promotion rivals.
