Todd Cantwell has opened the door on a sensational return to Rangers - just three months after joining Blackburn Rovers.

The controversial midfielder completed a deadline-busting move to Ewood Park in August after slapping in TWO transfer requests. Cantwell told Philippe Clement that he wanted to leave Ibrox during the summer, and despite attempts to force the ex-Norwich City playmaker into a rethink, the 26-year-old eventually returned to England.

Cantwell made a big impression in his first six months in Glasgow, starring under Michael Beale, but struggled for form and fitness in his only full season at the club. He didn't see eye-to-eye with Clement and his regular dose of cryptic social media posts soon drew the ire of fed-up fans.

The Englishman has since resurrected his career with Rovers, who sit ninth in the EFL Championship, featuring in all 11 league games and contributing two assists. But it's clear that Rangers is still on his mind as he reposted a highlights reel showcasing his best moments in a royal blue jersey.

Sharing the montage on Instagram, Cantwell wrote: "Such a special club, we had some fun. You hold a massive piece of my heart. Maybe one day again."

Speaking days after his departure, Cantwell claimed it was the right time for him to leave the Glasgow goldfish bowl after a turbulent 18 months in Govan. He said: "I think there's a misconception with how my time was at Rangers - it's been twisted. I wasn't a bad performer and I certainly didn't leave because I was being kicked out of the door.

"It felt like the right time to move on but it wasn't anything personal. They stated that it was important for me to stay and I loved the club so much, so it was a very difficult decision to make. Walking out at Ibrox is something I'll never forget, but it was the right thing for me and my career."
