The international break presented an opportunity to talk to Tom Cleverley without the need to ask about the game coming up in the next few days.

So, it seemed like the perfect opportunity to do something a bit more light-hearted and fun.

Therefore, the Watford Observer gave the Watford head coach a few quiz questions about his own career. Here’s how it went:

Andrew French: Which team did you play most matches against – you played against them 20 times?

Tom Cleverley: Twenty times? Jesus Christ! Twenty?!

AF: It’s not just for Watford, it’s throughout your career.

TC: Yeah I know, and I’m trying to think of teams I’ve played everywhere I’ve been. Is it Newcastle?

AF: No, Manchester City. You scored three goals against two different clubs during your career. Can you name one of them?

TC: Let me think. Newcastle is one of them.

AF: Correct. The other one was West Ham. Which team did you beat most?

TC: Why do I want to say Newcastle again?! I’m saying Newcastle for everything! It’s a really good question. I’ll say Sunderland.

AF: No, it was Norwich, you beat them eight times. You were sent off twice in your career, who against?

TC: Scunthorpe away for Watford in 09/10 was a straight red. And then Crystal Palace away for Watford in 17/18 for two yellows.

AF: Spot on. How many times did you play against Watford?

TC: That’s another good question. I’ll go with twice.

AF: Correct, both times for Everton in the 15/16 season. What was the result of those two games?

TC: It was 2-2 at Goodison, and then Watford beat us I think. Although hang on – the other one was a game where I came off the bench. James McCarthy put us ahead and Watford equalised. Yeah, it was 1-1.

AF: Totally correct. You scored on your Watford debut against Nottingham Forest on August 18, 2009. Who got the assist?

TC: Oh no, I should remember shouldn’t I?! Danny Graham?

AF: No.

TC: Was it Don Cowie?

AF: Wrong again.

TC: Ah that’s really poor on my part.

AF: Jon Harley was the right answer.

TC: Did he really?! Cheers Jon, and sorry!

AF: Which player during your career did you play with the most times?

TC: It’s got to be a Watford player. And it has to be someone who was here nearly all the time I was. Oh, yeah, Adrian Mariappa.

AF: Nope.

TC: Am I right, was he a Watford player?

AF: Yes, and you’re right that he was a long time. But he was also a Manchester United player.

TC: Ben Foster then?

AF: No.

TC: Craig Cathcart?

AF: Yes, you played together 90 times. You played for England Under-21s against Portugal at Wembley on November 14, 2009. There were five other players in the 18-man squad who also played for WFC. Who were they?

TC: Jack Cork and Danny Rose were two. That’s a great question. Was Josh MacEachran one of them?

AF: No, and one of the other three will be a bit embarrassing if you don’t get it!

TC: Danny Welbeck or Craig Dawson? Marvin Sordell?

AF: No, and you’re just guessing now! Who was in goal?

TC: Ahhhh, Scott Loach.

AF: That’s three. Who came off the bench that night, and is currently in the same building as us?

TC: Dan Gosling? Oh no!

AF: He’ll be pleased you remembered! The last one was on loan with you here the first time you came.

TC: Henri Lansbury, although I thought he was a bit younger than me.

AF: Last question. You achieved 15 assists in your 182 Watford appearances. Two of them came in one game. Which game?

TC: Did I really? Really?! I think being a coach makes you lose your memory. No, I’m struggling, that’s too difficult.

AF: Ok, would it help if I said it was October 23, 2009?

TC: Yeah, wait, wait, wait. Sheffield Wednesday, we won 4-1, Henri Lansbury scored two from my assists. That was really good, I enjoyed doing that.
