Tonight's Cardiff City news as loan star with 'added edge' shines and 'important player' ruled out
Here are your Cardiff City headlines for Monday, October 28.
'An added edge' – Loan star shines in 'big game'
Former Cardiff boss Neil Harris has heaped praise on Ryan Wintle after he starred on his first start for Millwall in their win over the Bluebirds' bitter rivals, Swansea City.
Wintle, who is on loan from Cardiff, had made six substitute appearances for the Lions but Harris handed him a start at the Swansea.com Stadium at the weekend and he played the full 90. Millwall nicked a late win courtesy of a 90th-minute strike from Casper De Norre and Wintle goaded Swansea fans with a social media post after the match.

Speaking following the victory, Harris said: “Wints has been very patient,” Harris said. “He’s learned a lot about us in a short space of time.
“I made four changes to the team, so I didn’t just make one taking Casper [De Norre] out. I made four just for fresh energy, fresh legs. I thought the four that I made just gave us a different dimension and [helped] carry the other lads.
“Wints, it was a big game for him. Being on loan from Cardiff, there was an added edge for him in this and it was the right game for him to come into and I thought he did very well.”
Meanwhile, Cardiff's other loanees enjoyed a productive weekend. Both Malachi Fagan-Walcott (York City) and Luke Pearce (Sligo Rovers) found themselves on the scoresheet for their respective clubs at the weekend.
Fagan-Walcott has earned real praise for his performances for the non-League side and he chipped in with his first goal of the season in a 2-1 win over Halifax Town. Striker Pearce notched his second in a 2-2 draw with Galway United.
Norwich blow ahead of Bluebirds clash
Norwich City have suffered a blow ahead of this weekend's clash with Cardiff, with captain Kenny McLean ruled out through suspension.
Cardiff will be without Perry Ng, a big blow for them, owing to picking up five yellow cards, but McLean himself was sent off yesterday in the thrilling 3-3 draw with Middlesbrough, which will see him miss Saturday's encounter at Cardiff City Stadium.
Norwich City boss Johannes Hoff Thorup said he would review the footage of McLean's challenge on Hayden Hackney and decide whether to lodge an appeal against it.
"To lose Kenny for three games is not good for us," Thorup said. "Of course, there are moments in the game where I'm also supporting the team in yellow out there. So maybe I see it from that perspective. I don’t want to blame referees, but I think from my position it was soft.
"And now, of course, we have to deal with it for three games, which is a big one based on that call. We have to watch it back and if we think there is a possibility for us (to appeal) we will consider it. It's three games we have to play without Kenny.
"So if we think it's too soft, and we can do something about it, we must look into that. But, like I said, I haven't seen it.
"He's an important player, just the way that he can dictate the game from that central position where he can bring us up the field, the way that he can start pressing for us and get all the boys going, and so on. He's so important for us."
South Wales derby tonight
Cardiff and Swansea go toe-to-toe in the mini South Wales derby tonight.
The under-21s face off at the Joma High Performance Centre in Swansea in the Professional Development League, with the Bluebirds sitting in second place after a strong start to the campaign, winning five of their eight games so far. Charlton, ahead of them by only four points, have played three more games.
It's all the more impressive given under-21s boss Darren Purse has stepped up to help Omer Riza's first-team coaching staff over the last month, with Matthew Bloxham taking charge in his stead. Sign up to our daily Cardiff City newsletter here.
The game kicks off at 7pm this evening.

Coach leaves after a decade
Academy coach Hywel Bartlett will leave the club after a decade.
Bartlett, the lead U15s and U16s coach, has helped coax through huge talents including Rubin Colwill, Isaak Davies and Cian Ashford since he joined the club.
And while he admits it's "bittersweet" that he is leaving, he is excited by what's next.
"After 10 years of incredible experiences, personal growth, and working with some truly amazing people at Cardiff City Academy, it’s time for me to say goodbye and move on to my next adventure," he wrote on social media. "I’m so grateful for the opportunities, friendships, and lessons learned along the way.
"A huge thank you to my colleagues, mentors and most importantly, the players. Their dedication, passion, and trust have made this chapter of my life so meaningful. I take pride watching them grow both on and off the pitch.
"Thank you for all the memories, while it’s bittersweet to say goodbye, I’m excited for what lies ahead. Time for the next chapter!"
