Turnbull says partnership is 'clicking'

Cardiff midfielder David Turnbull is “delighted” to be back in the squad following a groin injury that kept him out at the start of the season.

The five-time Scotland international has started Cardiff’s last two games against Plymouth and Portsmouth alongside fellow midfielder Alex Robertson.

"It’s been great playing with Alex," he said. "We both know each other as players, try to link up as much as we can and I think we’re feeding off of each other.

“We all link up well in midfield. We know how each other play, we’re all really good technically on the ball. I’d say we’re all on the same wavelength at the moment and it’s all clicking, so long may it continue.”

Turnbull impressed with his performance against Portsmouth, almost scoring from a handful of long-range efforts. The midfielder thinks “the goal is coming".

“I maybe tried too hard for it tonight,” added Turnbull. “I’m always trying to get as many of them as I can and once I get one, I’m sure more will come.”

'I have to do better' - El Ghazi

Cardiff winger Anwar El Ghazi is “grateful for every minute” on the pitch with Cardiff but feels his performances must improve.

The attacker has eased his way back into first-team contention following an extended period getting up to speed following a disrupted pre-season.

Now getting minutes under his belt, El Ghazi is hoping to show what he can do.

“I haven’t played much but I’m feeling better and better on the pitch,” said El Ghazi after Cardiff’s 2-0 victory over Portsmouth. “I’m far from where I want to be.

“I’m still creating and getting chances but I have to do better, I know that, but it’s coming.

“I’m very grateful for every minute that I can be on the pitch,” added the winger. “It’s just enjoyable again to play in a full stadium, to win games and play football”

El Ghazi also said that he is “eager” to face West Bromwich Albion on Saturday, adding that it will be “a good game”.

'We will have to be on our game'

After pulling Cardiff out of the relegation zone and going unbeaten in his last four games, Omer Riza’s style of football has rejuvenated the Bluebirds.

Scoring seven goals in their last two games, having only scored four in their previous nine, Riza’s open and expansive football philosophy is set to be tested when his team faces West Bromwich Albion on Saturday.

“I think we will be forced to tighten things up, playing against a very good side” said Riza. “They’re very disciplined in possession and probably won’t allow us too much space, but we’ll keep trying to play the way we are in possession.

"But out of possession we will have to be on our game to make sure we don’t lose the ball, and if we do lose the ball we don’t get hurt with it."

Riza will be hoping to make it four wins in six Championship matches this weekend as his time as interim boss continues.

Tomlin calls for Riza to get job

Ex-Cardiff City midfield Lee Tomlin has given his opinion on the current managerial question at the club.

Tomlin, who played for the Bluebirds between and 2017 and 2021, commented under the official Cardiff City Instagram account to show his support for the current interim boss.

“Give Riza the job he deserves it," commented Tomlin after Cardiff’s convincing 2-0 victory over relegation candidates Portsmouth.

This comes after uncertainty from both fans and Riza himself over whether or not he will take on the job of manager on a permanent basis.

With clarity being called for by Riza, only time will tell if Cardiff City owner Vincent Tan will entrust him with the position.
