Here are your Cardiff City headlines for Thursday, December 12.

Riza: Kanga's January exit a possibility

Omer Riza has said Wilfried Kanga leaving the club in January is a "possibility" amid his continued omission from the matchday squads.

Riza said the Ivorian, who is on loan from German club Hertha BSC, has been struggling with injury this week, however his absence from the squad which lost 2-0 at home to Preston North End last night means he hasn't been involved in the last four outings. He has played just 13 minutes in the last eight matches.

It's been a nightmare move for the striker in many ways, with the 26-year-old having failed to score in any of his 14 games for the Bluebirds. Instead, academy striker Michael Reindorf has been favoured on the bench.

Strikers is undoubtedly a position in which Cardiff will look to add in the new year and, as such, it looks increasingly likely Kanga will depart.

"Willy has had a bit of a knee problem this week," Riza said. "He will be assessed and he could be up for selection again. As it stands I think potentially, with players coming in and players going out, that could be a possibility. It's not 100 percent certain what's going on yet.

"There is something in the contract that says if we're not happy something can be done about it, but whether it's a recall or not, don't quote me on that."

Tanner injury blow

Ollie Tanner could be out until the new year with an injury problem.

The winger has been first choice on that right-hand side for much of this season, particularly under Riza, but he was conspicuous by his absence in the defeat by Preston North End on Tuesday night.

Yakou Meite started in his stead, but it was encouraging to see Anwar El Ghazi return from his own injury issues and add some spark to the attack in the final half an hour. Sign up to our daily Cardiff City newsletter here.

Speaking about Tanner, Riza said: "Ollie is injured. He's hurt his knee. He had a problem with his knee for two or three games prior (to Preston).

"We had a scan on it and it looks like he is out for two or three weeks. Hopefully it's no more than that and we can get him back."

On Kion Etete, Riza said: "He's training. He broke down after the friendly game we had (against Brentford), but he is now back out on the grass and he is training. He is still not quite there but working towards it."

Bagan: I feel like a different player after loan spell

Joel Bagan has opened up on his return to Cardiff after being out on loan at SV Zulte Waregem last season.

The left-back spent the entire campaign out in Belgium and has returned to try and force his way into the side. And he has done that, with 11 Championship appearances under his belt so far amid strong competition from Jamilu Collins and Callum O'Dowda.

Speaking about his return, he told last night's matchday programme: "I've loved being back. As soon as my loan spell finished last year, I couldn't wait to get back to Cardiff City. My aim was to get back in and around the squad and get as many minutes as I can, and so far this season that has happened for me, so I've been really pleased.

"I've felt like a different player this season coming back. A lot of that has come from the staff."

When he returned, Erol Bulut was of course the manager. Now, though, it's Omer Riza. Speaking about the new manager, he added: "Riz has been really good to me and a lot of the boys; he has given us a lot of confidence. I don't think there have been to many things that he has asked me to change.

"There are just little details that he recognises; it can be little compliments here or there, talking to you after training, I know he speaks to a lot of the boys and regularly checks up to see how you are - and that's if you're playing or you're not playing.

"Pursey [Darren Purse] has played for the club, which always adds extra value when he's talking to you and giving you advice. You know that he cares because he has played for the club and you know how much the club means to him."
