Tottenham confirmed team vs Chelsea - Richarlison starts, Maddison dropped and Moore sub

Tottenham Hotspur striker Richarlison celebrates scoring against Brentford

Ange Postecoglou has made five changes to his Tottenham team for Thursday evening's Premier League clash against Chelsea at Stamford Bridge. The side's second game in the space of five days, Spurs will be looking to bounce back to winning ways after Sunday's 3-2 North London Derby defeat against Arsenal.

That will be easier said than done, though, especially with Chelsea picking up some notable results against the Premier League's best sides at home this term despite their mixed results under Mauricio Pochettino. Postecoglou has lost two players from his Tottenham starting XI against Arsenal due to injury, with Timo Werner and Ben Davies out for the remainder of the campaign due to hamstring and calf issues respectively. Werner's injury means he misses out on a Stamford Bridge return after his two seasons with Chelsea.

The German international has been replaced in the Tottenham XI by Richarlison, who made an impression off the substitutes' bench against Arsenal. The inclusion of the Brazilian sees Son Heung-min revert to the left wing having played as a striker over the past month or so.

At left-back, Emerson Royal comes into the team in place of Davies. Spurs have a lack of left-back options as things stand due to season-ending injuries for Destiny Udogie and Davies, thus seeing right-back Emerson have to operate on the opposite side of the pitch.

Elsewhere, Postecoglou has switched things up in midfield for this evening's game in SW6. Starting with Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg, Rodrigo Bentancur and James Maddison as his midfield trio in the home defeat to Arsenal, the Australian has named Pape Matar Sarr, Yves Bissouma and Dejan Kulusevski as his starters in the middle of the park this time around.

Having lost two players from his matchday squad, Mikey Moore and Oliver Skipp come into the matchday party and take their place on the bench.

Asked in his pre-match press conference about facing Chelsea, Postecoglou said: "Chelsea, their recent form has been very good. They've got some real talent and Mauricio is an excellent manager, so I think irrespective of all of that, you're playing away from home, at their ground, it's a London derby, so you know it's going to be a tough game."

Here is tonight's Tottenham XI to face Chelsea:

Tottenham XI: Vicario; Porro, Romero, Van de Ven, Emerson; Bissouma, Sarr, Kulusevski; Johnson, Richarlison, Son.

Substitutes: Austin, Dragusin, Skipp, Hojbjerg, Bentancur, Lo Celso, Maddison, Gil, Moore.
