Chelsea have confirmed the signing of Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, with Marcos Alonso heading to Barcelona in a player-plus-cash arrangement. The Blues have missed out on Memphis Depay but did have better luck with Denis Zakaria, with the Swiss midfielder joining on loan after Ajax defensive midfielder Edson Alvarez and PSG superstar Neymar stayed put.

Tottenham opted against signing Dan James, with Fulham getting the winger on loan. Bryan Gil went nowhere with no replacement found by Spurs. Follow all the latest transfer news, rumours and gossip as Transfer Deadline Day comes to an end with Standard Sport’s LIVE blog below!

Having already spent a club and British record during a single window, the Boehly-Clearlake Capital partnership continued to back Tuchel deep into the final hours of the window. A loan move has been rushed through and the club have an option to buy next year for £26m.

Silva: I love Manchester

Thursday 1 September 2022 23:41 , Matt Verri

Bernardo Silva has been discussing his situation at Manchester City, with the midfielder staying at the club despite interest from Barcelona.

“My culture [in Portugal] is a bit different from your culture off the pitch,” he told BBC Sport.

“I love Manchester, people are really nice, the way they’ve treated me in the street, bars, restaurants, it’s a bit different from where I’m from, sometimes you want different things.

“It’s nothing to do with how nice the people are here and how good Man City is, and how happy I am to be staying. I’m staying for this season and if I stay here two or three seasons, I’m always going to do my best for this club.”

Nizaar Kinsella on Batshuayi

Thursday 1 September 2022 23:20 , Matt Verri

Michy Batshuayi’s move to Nottingham Forest collapsed in the final few minutes of the summer transfer window, meaning that he will remain at Chelsea until at least January.

The 28-year-old could be caught in limbo as Chelsea will carry 17 non-homegrown players and eight further homegrown stars allowed in the 25 man squad.

However, he can still look for a move to one of the few leagues with transfer windows still open with a loan to the Belgian, Greek or Turkish leagues most likely.

Forest had come close to agreeing on a free transfer for the Belgium international where they would take his full wage expense for the last year of his contract.

Brentford latest

Thursday 1 September 2022 21:38 , Marc Mayo

Standard Sport’s Malik Ouzia brings us an update from west London: “In a little bit of a surprise move, Brentford have allowed defender Mads Bech Sorensen to join Nice on loan.

“The Dane featured heavily towards the back end of last season and with injuries to Ethan Pinnock, Kristoffer Ajer and Pontus Jansson, Thomas Frank hasn’t been blessed with centre-back options at the start of the new campaign.

“However, Ben Mee has arrived on a free from Burnley and Zanka has returned, so when everyone is fit, Sorensen would have found himself a fair way down the pecking order.

“Looks like the Bees have taken a little bit of a short-term gamble to ensure the 23-year-old’s continued development.”

More on Depay talks

Thursday 1 September 2022 21:15 , Marc Mayo

Standard Sport’s Chelsea reporter Nizaar Kinsella reports: “The intermediaries around Memphis Depay are attempting to place him at Chelsea before the transfer deadline.

“Barcelona are willing to let him go for a nominal fee, or even for free, but the Blues are running out of time to do a deal for the Netherlands international.

“The other issue is that Chelsea don't have space in their squad list to add any more senior players and would have to move on a first-team star to fit him in.

“The most obvious candidate to be cut is Hakim Ziyech but the Dutch transfer window is closed and Ajax are unable to make a move. Chelsea already have 17 non-homegrown players which is the upper limit in any 25-man Premier League squad.”

Bakayoko set for year in wilderness

Thursday 1 September 2022 19:15 , Marc Mayo

Nizaar Kinsella, Standard Sport’s Chelsea reporter, has the latest on the dealings at Stamford Bridge: “Chelsea loanee Tiemoue Bakayoko is set to stay at AC Milan next season and continue the second year of his loan.

“In theory, the Italian giants have a £12m obligation to buy the midfielder at the end of the loan but it is based on his league appearances.

“He has played 14 Serie A matches and if he plays one more, the clause will be activated. However, Milan have stopped playing him as they don't want to sign him permanently which has meant he has only made one appearance in eight months.

“Chelsea and Milan have been in talks to cancel both his loan and his contract with his agents so he could move to Monza. Unfortunately, it hasn't come to anything just yet and he could be set for a full year in the wilderness with his Chelsea contract still running until 2024.”

“Shortly after joining Chelsea, I watched him become Academy Player of the Year in 2020 and win man of the match on his first two starts, interviewing him after one of them.

“Therefore, it was sad to see his subsequent struggles at Norwich and over pre-season with Thomas Tuchel. Brighton feels like the perfect move for a player of his talents and I expect he'll be quickly back on track to realising his potential as a top midfielder.”

West Ham miss out on Bednarek

Thursday 1 September 2022 15:22 , Marc Mayo

No dice for West Ham in their pursuit of Jan Bednarek.

The Athletic report on the Polish defender agreeing to join Aston Villa on loan despite Southampton agreeing to send him to London Stadium.

Standard Sport’s Malik Ouzia writes: “News that Jan Bednarek is headed for Aston Villa is bad news for West Ham but also, at this stage, bad news for Wolves because West Ham are insisting at the moment that Craig Dawson will not be allowed to leave the club unless they can secure a replacement.”

West Ham’s Aina bid rejected

Thursday 1 September 2022 15:05 , Alex Young

We understand West Ham’s bid for Ola Aina has been rejected.

Malik Ouzia reports that West Ham are weighing up whether to make an improved bid as they push to sign a new right-back before tonight’s transfer deadline.

A signing in the position would allow the Hammers to sanction the departure of youngster Harrison Ashby, who is wanted by Newcastle as back-up to Kieran Trippier.

Aina, who was born in London and came through Chelsea’s youth ranks, joined Torino in 2018, initially on loan, before making the switch permanent the following summer.

"He brings with him significant Premier League experience and I'm sure will prove a very valuable addition both on and off the pitch."

Ronaldo is staying put

Thursday 1 September 2022 14:31 , Alex Young

It’s all been a bit quiet on the Cristiano Ronaldo front today, given he’s desperate to leave Manchester United.

Well, he is with the squad tonight for their game against Leicester City. I don’t think even Jorges Mendes could engineer a move away now.

Ronaldo is staying put.

Newcastle want West Ham defender

Thursday 1 September 2022 14:14 , Alex Young

Newcastle are interested in signing West Ham right-back Harrison Ashby before tonight’s deadline as they seek back-up for Kieran Trippier, writes Malik Ouzia.

Ashby is in the final year of his contract and yet to agree a new deal but the Hammers are undecided about allowing the youngster to leave, given full-back Ben Johnson is out injured at the moment.

Should they agree to an exit for Ashby, we could yet see West Ham make a late move for a right-back. One to keep an eye on.

Marsch not giving anything away

Thursday 1 September 2022 13:37 , Alex Young

Leeds look set to be busy today, with incoming and outgoing, but Jesse Marsch is keeping mum. Or mom.

“I’m not really ready to comment at all on transfers just because I haven’t spoken to Victor [Orta, sporting director] yet,” he has told reporters.

“We just got off the training pitch. I know there’s a lot going on over at Elland Road. He’s active, we spoke when the day started and there were different discussions about strikers but I don’t have an update yet.”

He added: “I don’t want to comment about Dan [James]’s situation right now either.”

Barcelona are working to wrap up a move for Arsenal defender Hector Bellerin, writes Simon Collings.

The Spaniard spent last season on loan at Real Betis but he is now attracting the most interest from Barca, who he left in 2011 to join the Gunners.

The structure of any deal is still being worked out, however Bellerin could leave for free as Arsenal look to make a saving on his £100,000-a-week wages.

Chelsea agree Aubameyang deal

Thursday 1 September 2022 13:05 , Alex Young

Chelsea have agreed on a deal to sign Pierre Emerick Aubameyang from Barcelona on a permanent deal, writes Nizaar Kinsella.

The 33-year-old will cost £12million and is included in a swap deal with Marcos Alonso moving in the other direction.

The striker will fly out to London this afternoon to sign and complete his medical, with Alonso travelling from Madrid to Catalonia to complete his move.

Chelsea have long had an agreement over personal terms with the Gabon international set to sign a two-year deal that includes an option for an extra season.

Unfortunately, the former Arsenal captain will have to wait at least three weeks to make his debut due to a broken jaw.

Dervisoglu heading to Burnley

Thursday 1 September 2022 12:53 , Alex Young

One that we mentioned earlier on is Halil Dervisoglu’s move from Brentford to Burnley on loan and it looks to be close to completion, with the forward having travelled up north, writes Malik Ouzia.

Dervisoglu got a fair bit of playing time in pre-season and, after Marcus Forss’ departure, there was a feeling he might stay with the Bees this season.

It’s an interesting call from Thomas Frank, who has a few players in his squad, like Bryan Mbeumo and Mikkel Damsgaard, who can play up front but only really Ivan Toney that you would call a proper centre-forward.

Villa close in on Luiz replacement

Thursday 1 September 2022 12:32 , Alex Young

Aston Villa have had a bid accepted for Wolves midfielder Leander Dendoncker, who is likely to be the replacement for Arsenal target Douglas Luiz.

The Belgian midfielder had also been of interest to West Ham during a frantic end to the summer transfer window.

David Moyes’ side were already in talks with the Molineux club over a potential move for Craig Dawson as the deadline approaches, with the veteran defender expected to leave the London Stadium.

Still, Villa have now had an offer believed to be in the region of around £13m accepted for the 27-year-old and his arrival comes as Arsenal target Luiz.

Latest on Aubameyang

Thursday 1 September 2022 12:14 , Alex Young

Chelsea are still working on an agreement to sign Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, reports Nizaar Kinsella.

Marcos Alonso plus cash is expected to be enough to convince Barcelona to sell. The deal could be as low as £6.5million-plus-player.

The plan is for Aubameyang to board a flight to London at 2.15pm to fly out for his medical should an agreement be reached. Until a final figure is fully agreed, he won’t board the plane.

Williams staying with Blues

Thursday 1 September 2022 12:07 , Alex Young

A loan move for Chelsea academy signing Dylan Williams has been mooted in some circles but he is likely to stay, reports Nizaar Kinsella.

The January transfer window signing from Derby County has had an injury-hit start to life with the Blues but has been encouraged to fight for his Under-21s place this season.

The 18-year-old will only leave if an opportunity too good to refuse emerges in the final hours of the transfer window.

New deal for Gvardiol but hope for Chelsea

Thursday 1 September 2022 11:57 , Alex Young

RB Leipzig defender Josko Gvardiol has now signed a contract extension until 2027.

Chelsea were linked with a huge £77million bid for the centre-back, to then loan him back to the club for the season, in an attempt to beat rivals to his signature.

The Blues and Manchester City are likely to come back in for the player next summer - or earlier in January? - as we reported last night.

Leipzig may have taken a leaf out of Chelsea’s book as they are reportedly lining up a Gvardiol replacement in the form of Josip Sutalo, who could be signed and loaned back to Dinamo Zagreb until next summer.

West Ham could miss out on Dendoncker

Thursday 1 September 2022 11:53 , Alex Young

It looks as if West Ham may well miss out on Leander Dendoncker, with reports that Wolves have accepted a €15million bid from Aston Villa for the Belgian, writes Malik Ouzia.

We were told that West Ham were likely to only be interested in a loan deal today and given their own expenditure this summer, it'd be no surprise if Wolves decided on an outright sale instead.

That, of course, would be good news for Arsenal in their Douglas Luiz pursuit.

No surprise if Gil stays

Thursday 1 September 2022 11:50 , Alex Young

It would be no great surprise if Bryan Gil’s loan move to Valencia is off, as reported this morning in Spain, writes Dan Kilpatrick.

Tottenham have only ever been willing to allow the winger to leave if they can sign a replacement and there is an acceptance that finding an alternative who is better than the Spain international and willing to be a bit-part player is not an easy task at this late hour.

If true, the news would be a blow for Gil, who had wanted to return to the Mestalla for the rest of the season to boost his chances of making Spain’s World Cup squad.

The 21-year-old may now have to remain at Spurs and compete with Harry Kane, Dejan Kulusevski, Heung-min Son and Richarlison for minutes.

One intriguing but unlikely possibility is that Spurs face pressure to sell Lucas Moura, who has a year remaining on his contract and is interesting Aston Villa.

Fulham close in on Vinicius

Thursday 1 September 2022 11:48 , Alex Young

Fulham are closing in on a £5million deal to sign former Tottenham striker Carlos Vinicius from PSV Eindhoven, hijacking his loan at Benfica.

The Dutch giants will be due a sizeable sell-on clause and bonuses depending on performances, which has kept the initial fee low.

It remains to be seen whether the Cottagers will follow up their initial bid for Blackburn striker Ben Brereton Diaz with the signing of the Brazilian striker now highly likely.
