Transfer news LIVE! Palmer to Chelsea done; shock Man Utd medical; Gravenberch to Liverpool; Arsenal latest

Transfer news LIVE!

The deadline for the summer transfer window is fast approaching as clubs run out of time to complete deals before 11pm on Friday night. Chief among which are Chelsea, Manchester United, Liverpool and Tottenham, with Arsenal also keeping a keen eye on any late developments.

Arsenal have swatted away interest from the Blues in Emile Smith Rowe, prompting Mauricio Pochettino to turn the focus to Cole Palmer instead and a £45million deal was quickly agreed with Manchester City. He has now completed a medical. Arsenal are said to have their eye on Benfica full-back Alexander Bah and Barcelona’s Eric Garcia, while Manchester United have had Sofyan Amrabat rejected but are set to secure the loan signing of Sergio Reguilon from Tottenham.

Liverpool have now reached an agreement with Bayern Munich over Ryan Gravenberch. One of the biggest remaining deals could come with Tottenham’s £50m move for Brennan Johnson as Spurs also weigh up an offer for Chelsea’s Conor Gallagher, having missed out on Ansu Fati to Brighton. Spurs prepare Johnson bid but Gallagher move hinges on Hojbjerg

Spurs have made Johnson their top priority before tomorrow night’s transfer deadline, but reports suggest they are struggling to agree a fee with Nottingham Forest for the Welsh international.

The Independent claim that Tottenham are considering Eze as a possible alternative, having seemingly missed out to Brighton on a loan deal for Barcelona’s Ansu Fati.

However, it is said that the England winger is likely to be too expensive an option at this stage of the window, with Crystal Palace likely to demand well in excess of £60m having already lost Wilfried Zaha this summer and also seen off Chelsea’s pursuit of Michael Olise.

Man United fail with Sofyan Amrabat bid

07:24 , George Flood

Manchester United are reportedly working on a late deal for Sofyan Amrabat.

The Morocco international has been of interest to Erik ten Hag throughout the summer window as he strengthens his squad at Old Trafford.

However, deals for the likes of Mason Mount, Andre Onana and Rasmus Hojlund have clearly taken priority, leaving injury-hit United striving to get the late signing of Amrabat over the line.

The 27-year-old will not play for Fiorentina in their Europa Conference League play-off tie against Rapid Vienna tonight as he looks to seal a long-awaited move to Manchester.

Talks are said to be continuing between the two clubs, though The Athletic reported last night that United - wary of Financial Fair Play limitations - had seen a loan offer featuring two €1m instalments and a January break clause rejected.

Fiorentina are said to want a permanent sale worth around €35m, although could be open to a loan deal that includes an obligation to buy.

Liverpool locked in talks over Ryan Gravenberch deal

07:08 , George Flood

Liverpool are locked in talks with Bayern Munich over a move for Ryan Gravenberch, reports suggest.

The Dutch international has been on Jurgen Klopp’s transfer radar all summer as part of a planned midfield overhaul at Anfield that hasn’t quite gone to plan after missing out on the likes of Moises Caicedo and Romeo Lavia to Chelsea, despite signing Wataru Endo, Alexis Mac Allister and Dominik Szoboszlai.

Gravenberch appears to have become Liverpool’s main focus before tomorrow night’s deadline, with The Athletic reporting that they are in discussions over a permanent deal.

It is thought the Reds could submit an official offer soon for a player also linked with Manchester United, with Bayern apparently needing to seek a replacement before allowing the 21-year-old - who only joined from Ajax last summer - to leave.

Others say that Bayern will use the money received from the sale of Gravenberch to sign Fulham star Joao Palhinha.

Arsenal eye late move for Alexander Bah

06:49 , George Flood

A new Arsenal target is emerging with just two days remaining in the transfer window.

The Gunners were expected to be quiet in terms of potential incomings before the deadline, with the main focus on trimming Mikel Arteta’s large squad after getting the bulk of their business done early in the summer.

But links to former Manchester City defender Eric Garcia, now at Barcelona, continue, while they are also now being linked with Alexander Bah.

Danish publication Tipsbladet claims that Arsenal are in the race for the Benfica defender, who could be available for between £26m-£30m as the Gunners apparently seek additional full-back cover following the serious knee injury sustained by new signing Jurrien Timber on his Premier League debut that could see him miss the entire season.

However, it is Brighton who have swooped in to seal a deal for Fati according to widespread reports.

The 20-year-old will head to the Amex Stadium on a loan move until June 2024, with Fabrizio Romano reporting that there is no option to buy included in the deal and that Brighton will cover a large portion of the player’s salary.

Latest on Ansu Fati

Wednesday 30 August 2023 15:45 , Alex Young

Chelsea and Tottenham could miss out on Ansu Fati, if comments from the player’s father on his preferred destination are to prove correct.

Barcelona are ready to cash in on the 20-year-old striker, as reported by Standard Sport today, but his £200,000-a-week wages could be a stumbling block to a deal.

Furthemore, Fati would have to be convinced to leave Barcelona having risen through the youth ranks at the Camp Nou.

But, reports out of Spain suggest the player is ready to move on and is keen on a switch to the Premier League.

One club may still be able to stop such a move from happening, however.

Ocampos is reluctant having grown settled in Spain and will soon have the chance to play Champions League football after winning the Europa League in May.

Man United step up Nicolas Tagliafico talks

Tuesday 29 August 2023 16:45 , George Flood

Manchester United’s search for a new left-back is ramping up before Friday’s transfer deadline.

Erik ten Hag has something of a crisis at the position now with Luke Shaw and Tyrell Malacia both out injured, and Brandon Williams loaned out to Ipswich last week.

Diogo Dalot filled in as a makeshift left-back against Nottingham Forest on Saturday, with young Alvaro Fernandez also on the books.

United have been linked with a shock swoop for Chelsea’s Marc Cucurella, Tottenham’s Sergio Reguilon, Rico Henry of Benfica and Barcelona’s Marcos Alonso, among others.

But Nicolas Tagliafico now seems to have emerged as the primary option, amid reports from The Indepedent and others that talks are stepping up with Lyon over the Argentine World Cup winner.

United are said to want a loan deal for the 30-year-old, while Lyon would apparently prefer a permanent sale worth around £5.15m plus add-ons for a player who previously worked with Ten Hag at Ajax.

Transfer coup Kudus opens door to a wealth of options for West Ham

Tuesday 29 August 2023 12:03 , Alex Young

Fewer than four weeks ago, West Ham were creeping perilously towards the new season, shorn of their best player, yet to buy a single one in his stead and with fears last year's relegation scrap might be in danger of a repeat.

It is fair to say, then, that the mood in east London has transformed quite markedly, David Moyes's side off to a flying start in the Premier League having spent Saturday night atop its early table, and now with a midfield rebuild for the post-Declan Rice age complete.

James Ward-Prowse already looks every bit the no-brainer signing for this team that Moyes thought him long ago, while the early signs are that Edson Alvarez has the tools for a swift adaptation to English football. In Mohammed Kudus, the Hammers have now added a player of genuine X-factor as well.

After scoring 18 times for Ajax last season, Kudus was heavily linked with other clubs this summer, including Arsenal, while Brighton went further in coming close to sealing a deal (interest from the country's shrewdest recruitment team is usually a decent sign).
