Tshimanga says Holloway's belief in squad brought out the best in them

Kabongo Tshimanga said that the belief new Swindon Town manager Ian Holloway has in the squad has immediately rubbed off on them after their 2-1 FA Cup win over Colchester United.

The Peterborough United loanee popped up in extra time to slam home from close range to see Swindon into the FA Cup Second Round after Joel McGregor had cancelled out Harry Anderson’s opener in the original 90 minutes.

Tshimanga said that Holloway's energy has been infectious in his first week and has helped to lift the players and contribute to their victory.

He said: “It was so nice to score that goal, I think I should have scored earlier on as I had a few half chances where I could have done better but I was buzzing to get the win.

“We are really positive about the performance as there has been a lot of work that has gone in behind the scenes on the training ground with the belief the manager is trying to put into us as players.

“You can see from his interviews how much he believes in us.

“There is a lot more work to do but you could see from the chances that we created, the rotations, and the movement in the team. It is frightening.

“Sometimes I was starting on the left and end up on the right or I was starting in the middle and then be out on the right.

“I feel like there is a lot more to come from this team and we have got a lot to learn from this manager.”

It was revealed after the game that Tshimanga was not initially slated to start the game until his performances in training convinced Holloway to bring him in and that trust was repaid with the winner.

He said: “Training has been really competitive this week and as he [Holloway] mentioned, I wasn’t going to be in the team until Thursday.

“He has put that to the players that if you train hard, give it your all, and whatnot then you can get into that team.

“When we do 11 v 11 or we do shape or whatever then you have to come with your best and you can’t sack it off.

“He has laid down that you can’t think just because you are in the starting 11 that you are going to stay in there, you have got to give it your all.”
