FOOTBALL fans were left disappointed after they said they missed much of a U's game after traffic chaos left them waiting more than an hour to park.

Two crashes on the A12 and A120 near Colchester on Tuesday caused traffic chaos across the city.

It left some fans who went to watch the U's play against Arsenal Under-21s in the Bristol Street Motors Trophy at the JobServe claiming they missed some of the game.

The game kicked off at 7.45pm but fans say the traffic chaos meant they couldn't get into the Park and Ride to leave their cars before the start.

"By the time we got a tea from the confectionery stand we missed the first goal.

A further disgruntled fan said: "What’s making it harder is all the illegal parking on United Way. Council did say they were going to stop it but nothing has happened."

Another said: "We got in with plenty of time, but I must admit the only reason there was a queue was how slow they let the cars through into the car park. There has to be a quicker way coming out was fine no queues at all."

The delays were caused by the A120 being closed due to an overturned lorry, between Marks Tey and Coggeshall.

The incident happened just after 1pm on November 12.

A second overturned lorry of the A12 also caused log delays for drivers.

Colchester United was contacted for comment.
