US Navy veteran roasts Celtic fans over Remembrance Day 'disrespect' as heated debate hits the Hotline
It was another win for Brendan Rodgers' side - but it was far from routine at Rugby Park.
Celtic's 2-0 victory against Kilmarnock on Sunday took the Hoops back to the Premiership summit, but honest Parkhead Hotline callers admitted they had stopper Kasper Schmeichel to thank for helping them get the three points at Rugby Park. One punter also wasn't too pleased with Adam Idah's showing at the other end. David Bryce, Troon, said: "Celtic have Schmeichel to thank for a super performance against Killie. Killie were Celtic's toughest domestic opponent of the season and didn’t deserve to lose. Trusty was immense also. Idah was absolutely woeful. An embarrassing display from him."
Kenny Wilson, Moffat, added: "No doubt Celtic were lucky to take 3 points against Kilmarnock as every player was not at their best but that’s what champions do. Nicolas Kuhn once again showing his quality with the 2nd goal! But it’s about time these plastic pitches were banned in top flight football they are totally awful and make every game on them horrible to watch and it’s the only thing that keeps Kilmarnock in the league."
James Robertson, Alabama said: "While some may describe Celtic efforts and win against Kilmarnock as an ugly win it wasn’t as ugly as the disrespectful display of some fans during a minute of silence to remember those who served their country. As a veteran of the US Navy I was not pleased with such disrespect."
One caller however wanted to bring up the old grass vs plastic pitches debate. Bill Lockerbie, Northampton, said: "Interesting to read the plaudits given to an average Kilmarnock side against a Celtic team who have no equals at this time. The reality however is that a plastic pitch, apart from ruining football as a spectacle, simply equalises the worst with the best. Thankfully, sense has descended upon the suits in the Premiership and next year normal service will be resumed and football once again played on an equal playing field!"
It was a win on home turf for Rangers as they saw off Hearts at Ibrox - with the visitors passing up a host of chances in Govan as Philippe Clement's men held on. But Richard Wharton wasn't in a sympathetic mood as he said: "Normal service continues. The Tynecastle boys fail to turn up and score against their Glasgow pals yet again."
Irwin Houston, Giffnock, said: "What a fantastic display put on at Ibrox today, in honour of all those who gave their lives in two World Wars. Simply the Best show of respect in any stadium in the UK this weekend. LEST WE FORGET."
Elsewhere, Hibs fan Davy Cook, Edinburgh is rueing his club's decision to hand rookie boss David Gray the job on a permanent basis after the Easter Road side fell to a sixth Premiership loss of the season at home to St Mirren on Saturday that has left them rock bottom of the league. He said: "Think Hibs have went down the same road as Hearts by going down the robotic employment system, only there are robots are on the pitch."
