USWNT starting XI vs. Germany: Americans lineup for second match at Paris Olympics

The United States women's soccer team's march toward a medal continues on Sunday as they take on Germany in a matchup of top-five ranked FIFA teams.

The United States opened their Olympic tournament with a 3-0 pasting over Zambia. Mallory Swanson scored two first-half goals to help give coach Emma Hayes her first Olympic victory as the American head coach. Trinity Rodman added a goal in the 17th minute as Zambia had to play with 10 players after defender Pauline Zulu was sent off with a red card in the 33rd minute, but the U.S. could not capitalize on that advantage.

Germany, fourth in the women's FIFA World Rankings, also easily won their first match against Australia, 3-0. Marina Hegering, Lea Schuller, and Jule Brand each scored for the Germans, who last won Olympic gold at the 2016 Summer Games in Rio.
