Veteran manager Neil Warnock has sent a warning to Doug King after what he says is a “baffling” decision to sack Mark Robins.

The 75-year-old, who has spent most of his managerial career in the Championship and also had a brief spell in the Premier League, took to social media to comment on the Sky Blues’ owner’s decision to dismiss Robins after seven and a half successful years at the West Midlands club.

“The silly season has well and truly arrived in Coventry!” he said in a post on X, formerly Twitter.

“Baffled by the Mark Robins decision, he was a very dodgy VAR call away from a cup final a few months ago and has performed miracles since he got there, not sure what else he was supposed to do!?”

And Warnock concluded with what appeared to be a direct message to King, warning: “Careful what you wish for...”

The club took the decision to relieve the manager of his duties on Thursday morning, following the 2-1 CBS Arena defeat by Derby County, placing first team coach Rhys Carr in temporary charge of the team for today’s trip to league leaders Sunderland. The club have said they are now looking for a Head Coach, rather than manager, and have started the process to find a successor.

The club have the two week international break before getting back to action against Sheffield United on Saturday, November 23.
