Chelsea are busy preparing for the second part of their double-header against Newcastle United this evening.

The Blues will face Newcastle in the fourth round of the Carabao Cup just days after beating the Magpies 2-1 in the Premier League at Stamford Bridge at the weekend. Enzo Maresca's side are currently in fifth place in the Premier League table and six points adrift of leaders Manchester City, as they prepare to face third-placed Arsenal on Sunday.

Aside from the action on the pitch, Chelsea are also being linked with several potential new signings ahead of the January transfer window. The latest rumours claim that the Blues are interested in signing a new striker and a centre-back in 2025.

Here, football.london takes a look at the latest Chelsea transfer news and gossip that have generated headlines over the last 24 hours.

According to Sky Germany, the Blues are among four Premier League clubs that are showing an interest in signing the Sweden international. The report claims that Chelsea will face competition from Liverpool, Arsenal and Manchester City for Gyokeres' signature.

It has been reported that Gyokeres is valued by Sporting at around €70million (£58million). There have also been suggestions that the striker, who has scored 16 goals in 15 appearances so far this season, will be available for transfer next summer.

football.london says: Viktor Gyokeres has emerged as one of the most sought-after strikers in Europe with his form for Sporting over the last 18 months. Chelsea already have several forward options at their disposal, but the prospect of signing a striker of Gyokeres' ability may be too good an opportunity to turn down.

Chelsea set for Liverpool transfer battle

Chelsea are being linked with a move for Nottingham Forest defender Murillo.

According to TEAMtalk, the Blues will compete with fellow Premier League rivals Liverpool for the signing of the centre-back. It has been reported that Chelsea have added Murillo to their shortlist of central defender targets ahead of the January transfer window.

The report does add, though, that Chelsea are not planning to sign Murillo in the New Year and may instead wait until next summer.

football.london says: Chelsea currently have Tosin Adarabioyo, Wesley Fofana, Levi Colwill and Benoit Badiashile as their current centre-back options. Even though signing a new central defender may not be a priority, if the opportunity to sign Murillo presents itself, it may be a deal worth weighing up for the Blues.
