The Penguins signed legend Sidney Crosby to a two-year contract extension on Monday. Other moves they made this offseason includes trading for Winnipeg Jets forward Rutger McGroarty and signing defenseman Sebastian Aho to a two-year deal.
Pittsburgh will hope that those moves will get the team back to the playoffs after missing it for two consecutive seasons. That’s not a normal place for this franchise, as the team had made the playoffs for 16 consecutive years before that, with three Stanley Cup titles in that span.
The Sabres signed Ukko-Pekka Luukknonen to a five-year contract back in July, keeping the young player in Buffalo long term. The team also has a new head coach in Lindy Ruff, who will look to get the franchise back to the postseason for the first time since 2011.
