West Brom ended their streak of draws with a 2-0 victory over Coventry, marking Frank Lampard's first defeat as manager. Alex Mowatt and Karlan Grant netted goals in each half to secure the win for Carlos Corberan’s side, extending their unbeaten run to 12 matches.

The Baggies had drawn 10 of their last 11 Championship games but managed to convert this one into a win, their first in over a month, thanks to Mowatt’s deflected effort - his first goal since September. Despite leading and failing to win on five separate occasions before this match, West Brom held off a second-half onslaught from Coventry, with Grant’s strike sealing the points with 16 minutes left, pushing them back into the play-off spots.

Lampard made two changes following his first win as Coventry head coach, bringing in Josh Eccles and Norman Bassette for Ellis Simms and Victor Torp. Meanwhile, Corberan welcomed Mason Holgate back into his starting line-up.

The visitors posed the first threat, with Bassette breaking the offside trap and charging into the penalty area, only to be thwarted by Torbjorn Heggem’s last-minute challenge. West Brom took the lead in the 11th minute, courtesy of a stroke of luck.

Tom Fellows was a constant menace down the right for West Brom, managing to get a shot off that was blocked into the path of Mowatt. He drilled it through a crowded penalty area off Eccles and beyond Brad Collins.

Tatsuhiro Sakamoto missed a golden opportunity when he failed to connect with Ephron Mason-Clark’s cross towards the far post, letting West Brom off the hook. Coventry looked more likely to equalise before half-time, with a neat combination of play between Sakamoto and Bassette setting Eccles free, but his effort was denied by Alex Palmer.

The away side once again squandered a chance in front of goal when Milan van Ewijk crossed into a dangerous area, but Torp’s header took the ball off the toes of Jack Rudoni who was waiting to tap into an empty net. Despite dominating the second half, Coventry couldn't find a way past Palmer, with ex-Albion forward Brandon Thomas-Asante sending a cross to Sakamoto whose header was saved at the far post.

Against the run of play, West Brom suddenly found themselves two goals ahead. Grant picked up the ball deep inside Coventry territory and with some nifty footwork, took three defenders out of the game before expertly slotting into the bottom corner to secure a vital three points for West Brom.
