West Ham player ratings vs Aston Villa: Brilliant Said Benrahma makes his point as Lucas Paqueta struggles
West Ham moved out of the Premier League relegation zone with a 1-1 draw against Aston Villa.
Said Benrahma equalised for the Hammers from the penalty spot after Ollie Watkins had given Villa an early lead.
Here’s how David Moyes’ side rated at the London Stadium...
Alphonse Areola 7
Started back-to-back Premier League games for first time in his West Ham career and made brilliant save to deny Watkins.
Thilo Kehrer 5
Caught dozing a couple of times by Moreno. Position is a problem at the moment with Coufal out.
Kurt Zouma 6
First Premier League start since January and was solid. Played a couple of fine long balls.
Nayef Aguerd 5
Should not have been beaten to ball by Watkins for opener. Passing was excellent, though.
Good covering to thwart Watkins just before the break.
Tomas Soucek 6
A little sloppy in possession but again looks better suited to this 4-3-3 system.
Declan Rice 6
Not his finest afternoon and was lucky to get away with gifting ball away on edge of box. Got involved in some nonsense with Buendia, too.
Lucas Paqueta 5
Won a fairly soft penalty after Bailey’s clumsy challenge. Booked for poor tackle on McGinn and then replaced stormed down tunnel when replaced.
Jarrod Bowen 7
Fine back-post cross made early chance for Benrahma and brought plenty of thrust down the right.
Danny Ings 5
Brought in as a proven goalscorer but hardly had a sniff and replaced with five minutes to go as West Ham pushed for a winner.
Said Benrahma 8
Lifted a superb penalty beyond dive of Martinez and threatened on numerous other occasions. West Ham’s best player.
Pablo Fornals (Paqueta 76’) 6
Maxwel Cornet (Ings 86’) N/A
