The Premier League have explained why Dominic Solanke's goal against Ipswich Town was disallowed.

Tottenham Hotspur fell to a 2-1 defeat at the hands of the Tractor Boys in the Premier League clash in North London on Saturday in the final fixture before the November international break.

Spurs were trailing 2-0 at half-time after the visitors scored goals through Sammie Szmodics and Liam Delap. Rodrigo Bentancur got a goal back for Ange Postecoglou's team in the second half, but it was not enough to prevent a disappointing defeat for Tottenham.

Solanke thought he narrowed the deficit in the early minutes of the second half to give Spurs hope of a comeback against Ipswich.

The goal was initially awarded onfield, but was later disallowed following a VAR check by official John Brooks, and now the reason behind the decision has been confirmed.

The Premier League Match Centre account on X, formerly known as Twitter, has explained that the reason Solanke's goal was disallowed was for a handball in the moments leading to the strike. As a result, Solanke's effort was ruled out and the score remained 2-0 until Bentancur's effort 20 minutes later.

Solanke has scored six goals for Spurs since his £65million move from Bournemouth during the summer transfer window, with VAR denying the strike his seventh of the campaign. Two of Solanke's four in the Premier League this term came in the 4-1 victory over Aston Villa last week in North London.

The defeat leaves Tottenham in ninth place in the Premier League table heading into the final international break of the calendar season. After Spurs return to top flight action later this month they will travel to face reigning champions Manchester City who themselves have lost their last four matches in all competitions.
