Why Fraser Forster is perfect Joe Hart replacement as Celtic urged to make transfer swoop

Celtic have been urged to try and bring back one of their best goalkeepers EVER in Fraser Forster.

The veteran goalkeeper, 36, has reportedly been made available for a Tottenham transfer exit by former Hoops boss Ange Postecoglou. It just so happens that Brendan Rodgers requires at least one new shotstopper this summer with Joe Hart retiring and Benji Siegrist possibly moving on too.

Forster still has a year left on his deal so a deal would perhaps require a transfer fee but Spurs shouldn't be difficult to deal with for a player who failed to appear once this season. Celts hero John Hartson reckons it's one his old club should be all over if they can make the finances work.

He insists the Englishman is one of the best keepers in Celtic's history and has the stature required to replace Hart. Any move would see Forster return to Parkhead for a FIFTH time. He first signed on loan from Newcastle in 2010 before coming back for a second loan. That then became permanent but two years later he left for Southampton. But in 2019 there was another loan with Neil Lennon swooping to bring his old goalie back.

Asked if it's one he'd like to see done, Hartson told Go Radio: "Yes. I think a lot of supporters will also feel the same. I think he did nothing but great things last time he was at Celtic. I think he was seen as one of the best goalkeepers they've ever had. He was involved in the success at Celtic, made some fantastic saves.

"Why not? If Celtic can do a deal and Brendan Rodgers still feels Fraser Forster is more than capable of coming in. When a goalkeeper like Joe Hart leaves, who has been so successful, you might not replace Joe Hart but you've got to try and get something as close to him.

"A lot of people will say Fraser Forster is as good if not better in terms of being the right age, a little bit younger than Joe Hart. So yes, I could see it happening and the budget and wages and everything come together."
