Huddersfield Town goalkeeper Jacob Chapman insists his side’s good run of form is “not a shock to anyone” at the club.

The Terriers have won seven and drawn two of their last nine League One matches following Saturday’s 2-1 victory at Mansfield Town.

Town’s win at the weekend was their fourth on the bounce in the league and fifth in all competitions, with Michael Duff’s side having put together a strong run of form in the lead up to the Christmas period.

Having had a tough spell earlier in the campaign, as well as a shock FA Cup exit at the start of last month, Chapman believes his side are now showing what they are capable of.

“We knew how good we can be. Obviously there’s been the Tamworth game, but even before that, there were games where we went through a run and the results weren’t good enough,” the goalkeeper told HTTV. “We’ve come out of that and we’re showing what we’re about, and we know that we can do this, it’s not a shock to anyone.

“It was a shock when we were losing to be honest, and there was a wake-up call, and one we needed obviously. We shouldn’t have let that happen, but it did.

“We’re finding some form, but we know if we turn up on the day we can beat nearly anyone, if not anyone in this league, and we’ve just got to keep it going now. It’s not an easy league at all, but if we keep the momentum and belief going, then we’ll have a positive time.”

Town’s latest victory was hard earned on Saturday, with first-half goals from Ben Wiles and Josh Koroma securing all three points for the Terriers. The clash at Field Mill was played in testing conditions owing to Storm Darragh, and Chapman was pleased to come away from a challenging contest with the victory.

“Really tough – windy, rainy, really wet. The same for everyone obviously, and the same for both GKs (goalkeepers),” the stopper said. “Goal kicks, kicking it up the field, crosses, everything was different – how the ball holds up, how the ball swerves. I learned a lot I think today, which is a good thing. I learned, but we won as well, which is the ideal situation for anyone.

“I was happy with a few things, a few other things I’ve learned from, but overall to come here in these conditions and win (is the most important thing), against a team that’s actually pretty good to be honest, considering they haven’t been in this league for ages. We’ll take the win and we’ll go from there.

“The lads were so good in front of me, the defence was a brick wall the whole game. They got one scrappy goal, but we’ll learn from that and we’ll move on.”

Chapman also reserved special praise for the travelling support, who he believed played a key part in his side claiming the victory.

“A big shout out to the fans for coming in these conditions and being as loud as they were. They were more than just our 12th man today in my opinion, I think they got us through it,” the keeper said. “I thought we fought really hard as well don’t get me wrong, but the fans got us through it, and they should be equally as proud of themselves as we should be.

“To come here and get a win is what you have to do if you want to do something special in the league, and that’s obviously what we’re trying to do.”
