Jeremy Doku is the latest player to add to Manchester City's never-ending injury list after he was left out of the squad at Brighton.

Pep Guardiola had said there was 'no good news' on injuries, which was taken to mean all the City players who missed the trip to Sporting this week were still out. Doku came off the bench as he continued his recovery from a latest injury, but that appears to have returned.

Jack Grealish, John Stones and Ruben Dias missed out at Brighton as expected along with long-term absentees Rodri and Oscar Bobb. The bench in Brighton also pointed to a number of other ongoing issues.

Bernardo Silva was dropped to the bench along with Manu Akanji - both starters in Portugal - leaving Jahmai Simpson-Pusey and Josko Gvardiol to partner each other in central defence. Alternatively, Walker could partner Simpson-Pusey in the centre with Lewis and Gvardiol in their usual full-back positions.

Elsewhere, Mateo Kovacic and Ilkay Gundogan started in midfield with the onus on Phil Foden to create from the middle. Savinho and Matheus Nunes were chosen on the wings to supply Erling Haaland.

There was no official reason on Doku's absence, other than the official City website saying he was missing along with the other injured players.
