Why the Nike swoosh is vertical on Liverpool's new third kit as distinct tick explained

Liverpool fans will no doubt have spotted that the new Nike third kit contains something of a twist. The Nike logo has been turned on its side in its usual place on the Reds jersey.

Released under the tagline "Together We Rise", the third kit is designed to celebrate the women's game and its acceleration in world sport. That is represented by a "distinct vertical double swoosh" which is on the jersey, shorts, and socks.

The iconic Nike logo denotes the wing of the Greek goddess of the same name. It symbolizes speed, movement, power and motivation and the new detail will be worn by both the men's and women's teams.

Every third kit in the Nike collection "Together We Rise" is inspired by something from the club's history and identity. As well as Liverpool, Chelsea, Tottenham, Atletico Madrid and Inter Milan will also wear the sideways tick.

This shirt is described as being "rebellious by design" a celebration of female punk artists who pioneered a new sound in the city. It is said to "fuse the iconic club colors with a loud mixed pattern in homage to the city's fearless artists and features in parts the Liver bird feathers".

Taylor Hinds said: "I love the kit; I think it's different, especially with the Swoosh and what it represents. It's also still got the Liverpool red in it, and I can't wait to wear it."

Andy Robertson added: "I really like it; I like the color and the detail on the shirt, especially with the Swoosh going up, which is a bit different. It's signifying the rise of the women's game and we're a big part of it to try to help that."

The new Liverpool kit will be worn by the Reds' men's team at Old Trafford on Sunday as they face Manchester United. It will be available to purchase from September 3 and is already available for pre-orders.
