The father of Benfica star Orkun Kokcu has not ruled out a future move to Liverpool amid recent transfer rumours. The Reds have been credited with an interest in signing the Turkey international in recent weeks ahead of the January transfer window.

Reports earlier this month claimed that Liverpool have been sending scouts to watch Kokcu in action for Benfica. The 23-year-old is reported to have a €150million (£125million) release clause in his contract, but is also thought to be valued at €80 million (£66million) by the Liga Portugal club.

Kokcu starred for Benfica against his former employers, Feyenoord, in the Champions League on Wednesday night but was on the receiving end of a 3-1 defeat. The playmaker has four goals in all competitions so far this season, with two coming in Europe against Red Star Belgrade and Atletico Madrid.

It has also been suggested that Liverpool head coach Arne Slot is a fan of Kokcu, having worked with the playmaker during their time at Feyenoord. And it seems that the player's father is also a fan of the Reds boss.

Kokcu's father, Halis-Sibel, has opened up about his son's future amid speculation that he could join Liverpool. Halis-Sibel went on to suggest that he would not be against the midfielder having a reunion with Slot at Anfield.

"We are talking about a professional footballer," Halis-Sibel told ESPN.nl. "So you can name several clubs. Liverpool, but also other clubs. But Orkun's focus is the most important, and that is currently on Benfica.

"In modern football, all clubs think about making a profit. The fans and the club are fine with that. That's also the project here.

"We'll see where he ends up in the future. Arne Slot is a good friend of ours. They've been through a lot together. Liverpool? Why not?"
