Who will win Celtic vs Rangers? Our writers deliver their verdicts for Premier Sports Cup final
Celtic vs Rangers in a major cup final. It simply does not get any bigger.
The nation will stop in its tracks on Sunday for the biggest domestic game since the last time these two met at Hampden back in May. Celtic were the narrow winners that time, Adam Idah scoring the only goal in the dying stages to lift the Scottish Cup and sealing a double to round off Brendan Rodgers' first season back at the club nicely.
But the one feather the boss didn't manage to add to his cap last season is the only one his Ibrox rival did. Philippe Clement knows all about the importance of this trophy, and lifting it this time last year is one of the main reasons he's been given this long in the job. Some improved recent form is starting to make fans standing by him believe it was the right decision - a win this time and the doubters will really start to be convinced. It's an all-conquering Celtic against a resurgent Rangers and here's how our writers see it going.

If this final was three weeks ago it would have been a matter of how many Celtic would win it by. It doesn’t feel that way now. But Brendan Rodgers has gone the course and distance in this derby and his managerial expertise will see his side get over the line. Just.

A month ago you’d have given Rangers no chance but there seems to be real momentum growing at Ibrox. Recent history shows that no matter the contrasting fortunes of the teams, these derby affairs are always tight, with only three of the last 15 head to heads boasting more than a goal between the sides. With that in mind, I’m going to sit on the fence and say it will go down to the lottery of penalties - and only Mystic Meg can predict that kind of outcome!

A much closer contest than might have been predicted a month ago as Philippe Clement is getting a tune out of his Rangers side at last. They have more threat going forward now and could push Celtic all the way. But the Hoops are still on a different level in an attacking sense and I fancy them to sneak it - and maybe with another late Hampden winner.
Celtic 2 Rangers 1

Anything can happen, that’s the old saying, but that hasn’t been the case in recent times when these two collide. Brendan Rodgers dominates this fixture come rain or shine – one defeat in 19 against Rangers can attest to that. Then factor in the Celtic manager’s undefeated 12-game run at Hampden. It makes the case for Clement and Co a hard sell. But while Igamane and Cerny offer a fresh danger, Celtic boast game-changers in abundance.
Celtic 3 Rangers 1

Momentum has slowly been building for Rangers after a lacklustre start to the season. Philippe Clement promised we would see the best of his new look squad by November, although they are behind schedule the holders could be peaking at the right time. Celtic’s domestic juggernaut has to stop at some stage, and it could be at Hampden in a close encounter.
Celtic 1 Rangers 2

Let’s face it, they’re favourites for a reason. Rangers have improved recently but Celtic are just too strong. It will be tighter and cagier than recent league meetings - as cup finals always are - but the Hoops have a clear advantage in quality, and a proven stomach for these types of fight.
