Who will win Nice vs Rangers? Our writers deliver their predictions for Europa League showdown in France

Rangers earned a big point on the road last time out at Olympiacos - and they will need to show a similar spirit at Nice.

Philippe Clement's men continue to struggle for form and consistency with the Light Blues dropping points at home to Dundee United last time out while rivals Celtic picked up a thumping win at Hearts to stretch the gap between the two in the league to 11 points. Aberdeen are winless in their last two outings but sit nine ahead - having played a game more - as the Ibrox side face a major catch up job on the domestic scene.

But as the pressure ramps up on home soil, the Europa League gives Clement and his troops the chance to show what they really can offer and victory would put them in a strong position for the next round ahead of a tough double-header against EPL big hitters Tottenham and Manchester United in their next two matches following their outing with the Ligue 1 outfit. Every game holds huge importance for Clement as he fights to turn things around and release some of that increasing pressure from the stands. Here's how Record Sport's top team see Thursday's showdown playing out.

Philippe Clement is desperate for a win to relieve the suffocating pressure he’s under but the Ligue 1 side are on a decent run and given what fellow Frenchmen Lyon did to the Ibrox side, it might be another difficult evening for Gers’ Belgian boss.

Rangers will produce yet another Jekyll and Hyde performance by getting a credible point away from home in Europe. With no home crowd on their backs and the pressure off against a team who will attack, Philippe Clement’s side can play on the counter attack and edge closer to qualification from the group stage.

Rangers have produced their best when on the back foot in Europe this season and Philippe Clement’s side can run Nice close.

But there’s real quality in the French ranks and they badly need a win to get back in among the reckoning for the last 16. For that reason I can only see a narrow home win.

Nice 2 Rangers 1

Rangers seem to be better equipped for Europe and they will cause Nice problems on the break. The French outfit are fairly flakey but have quality when they turn it on. It could be a thriller but it’s a big ask for Gers.

Rangers have been struggling to score goals and it is not going to get any easier against the French. Philippe Clement’s team have saved some of their best performances for the continent this term, but this might be too tough to overcome.
