Women's 1s win at home in action-packed weekend for Salisbury Hockey Club
It was a mixed day for Salisbury Hockey Club, but the Women's 1s dug deep to produce the victory of the day against Amersham and Chalfont.
The game started slowly for the visitors with Bournemouth attacking strongly and putting the Salisbury defence under early pressure, which they managed to withstand.
The first goal of the game came at the midpoint of the first half, Salisbury’s Kynon Griffith-McCann coolly converting. Mac Stevenson then finished a penalty corner well to make it 2-0.
Bournemouth pulled one back before halftime with a strong and accurate drag flick.
Bournemouth started the second half strongly but the back 4 of Lyne, Garner, Goodthwaite, Banfield and with the help of man of the match Si Hare withheld and Griffith-Cann scored his second on the break.
Bournemouth pressed in the last 10 minutes and two well taken goal left the score 3-3 at full time.
Salisbury came home from their trip to the coast feeling that two points were dropped rather than one point gained, but will look to regroup.
The Women’s 1s hosted Amersham and Chalfont and knew they would have to dig deep to pick up points. Salisbury started strongly and their hard work was rewarded when Aoife Lawrence converted a short corner.
The lead was short lived, and Amersham soon equalised.

Amersham got a consolation goal late on, but Salisbury held on for a 3-1 win. In what will be a tough league they performed well and will take heart from the performance and the result.
In other games the Men’s 2s claimed a convincing win over Alton. The Men’s 3s lost 3-0 at Romsey while the Men’s 4s won well 4-0 with a hat trick for Max Hamer.
The Women’s 2s lost 2-0 to New Forest and the Women’s 4s lost 2-1 at Southampton. The Women’s 3’s hosted local rivals Andover taking the game 3-0.
On Sunday the U8’s and U10’s had a successful tournament at New Forest. The U12 Boys and Girls put out multiple teams at home versus Winchester and Southampton with some good results including the Girls winning 7-1 against Winchester Reds.
