'I won fairly' Jose Mourinho delivers fiery comeback to Pep Guardiola's Man City title brag
Jose Mourinho has snapped back at Pep Guardiola after the Man City boss boasted he had won twice as many Premier League titles as his former managerial rival.
Guardiola was taunted by Liverpool fans on Saturday as the English champions crumbled to a fourth league defeat and fell a staggering 11 points behind Arne Slot's table-toppers. Cheeky chants of 'you're getting sacked in the morning' erupted from the Anfield crowd, and the smirking Barcelona icon responded by raising six fingers - reminding fans of his remarkable trophy haul.
The gesture was reminiscent of Mourinho's antics when the Portuguese held three fingers aloft to Chelsea and Tottenham fans during his final days at Manchester United. The Special One was axed by Old Trafford chiefs a short time later and Guardiola was clearly irked when asked if he feared suffering a similar fate after the defeat at Liverpool.
The Spaniard said: "I hope not in my case… He won three, I won six.. but we are the same like that. We are together in the those situations. To make our fans know that we are much, much better than the people that sing that [Liverpool fans singing sacked in the morning].
"It [the gesture] was just to make our fans feel that what we have done is extraordinary. I want to prove that we are an incredible football club. Sooner or later it’s going to be the end but I will try to extend as much as possible for the best of my club."
Guardiola's remarks clearly hit a nerve with Mourinho as the Fenerbahce head coach delivered a savage response, aiming a ruthless dig at City's 115 FFP charges. "Guardiola said something to me yesterday. He won six trophies and I won three, but I won fairly and cleanly. If I lost, I want to congratulate my opponent because he was better than me. I don’t want to win by dealing with 150 lawsuits."
