New Manchester United head coach Ruben Amorim touched down in the north west for the first since being confirmed as Erik ten Hag's successor.

The Portuguese tactician met with the United footballing hierarchy at the Carrington training complex on Monday as he embarks on steering the club to success.

Work will now get underway to hatch a plan on how to engineer success at Old Trafford, having been starved of top-flight and European success. Ten Hag led United to Carabao Cup and FA Cup triumphs but defeats to their bitter rivals, as well as their lowest top-flight finish in over 30 years, overshadowed aspects of his tenure.

Waiting for Amorim as he stepped foot out of the transport to the training ground was Omar Berrarda, Jason Wilcox and sporting director Dan Ashworth. It is with the former Newcastle United and Brighton & Hove Albion chief that Amorim will undergo discussions over how to transform United's fortunes.

Ashworth, who was named United's inaugural sporting director after prizing him from the Magpies, has received resounding praise throughout his time in the Premier League. He was placed on gardening leave by the North East club after the two top-flight rivals battled for his services.

Graham Potter worked closely with the figure at the AMEX Stadium and speaking on Monday Night Football in October, he said: "I think Dan is probably part of the team there as well and he'll want to support and help, that's my experience with Dan.

"I don't know anything about the context of Manchester United but my experience of Dan, working at Brighton was that he's very supportive, even challenging at the right time, but he'll want to help and be there for you.

"I think football clubs have to create conditions for coaches to be successful as well and that's what he'll try to do as best as he can."
