Worthing were poised to make a signing as they prepare for life after Kane Wills.

The vastly-experienced midfielder is moving to Dubai in the New Year.

He will be a significant loss for Rebels but they were watched by a likely new addition as they played Gosport Borough.

Confirmation of the deal was believed to be close as Chris Agutter spoke after his side’s shoot-out defeat in the FA Trophy.

The Rebels boss said: “We are pretty much there with a player and he was here today.

“A different type of player to Kane but in terms of a leader, personality, somebody who is experienced, we have added to the group for sure.”

Wills, who came through Albion’s youth set-up, has a wealth of know-how from his years on the non-league circuit.

Agutter said: “He’s our Ngolo Kante, that’s what we have said to him.

“He is going to be a big miss but we are going to keep squeezing everything out of him for the time being.”

Rebels conceded an equaliser deep in added time as they drew 1-1 at home to Gosport and then went out 3-2 on penalties, failing with three of their five spot-kicks.

Without being at their best, they had gone close to adding to the lead given them by Charlie Wassmer when Joel Colbran’s cross left him facing his own net.

But Gosport, who defended well offered nothing in attack for more than half the game, were pushing hard for the leveller even before Dan Wooden fired home.
