Wycombe a welcome test for City as Hinshelwood reveals FA Cup ambition
ADAM HINSHELWOOD is looking forward to the test of Sky Bet League One opposition on Saturday as York City visit Wycombe Wanderers in the Emirates FA Cup first round.
Wycombe currently find themselves in the automatic spots of the third tier on 26 points, having embarked on a ten match unbeaten run in the league.
York themselves are in fine form, having not lost a competitive match in over two months, and are sitting pretty at the top of the Vanarama National League.
Hinshelwood hopes that his side can give a good account of themselves against a club that he represented as a player, and hopes to see improvements from Saturday’s dramatic late 2-1 win over FC Halifax Town.
“They’re flying high and have unbelievable firepower,” Hinshelwood credited.
“If we give the ball away cheaply in our half, like we did against Halifax, then they will punish us.
“That’s our challenge, there has been so many underdog stories throughout the FA Cup and we’ve got to look at those.
“We’re hoping that Wycombe maybe have an off-day, don’t quite take their chances and we’ve got to be ready to take our chances.
“It’s a great test and a great place to go and play, I thoroughly enjoyed my time playing at Adams Park and I’m sure that we will have a full house there with a really good atmosphere.
“We’re hoping that we can give a good account of ourselves.”
Hinshelwood believes that City could not drawn a harder match than Wycombe in the FA Cup, bar Birmingham City and Wrexham, but sees the match as an opportunity showcase York’s quality against an impressive Wanderers.
He added: “It’s a great test, one that we feel that we are ready for.
“We want to put ourselves against some good opposition and at the moment, at this level and this stage of the FA Cup, there’s probably not a tougher game that you can come up against.
“Birmingham or Wrexham aside, Wycombe are arguably the inform team of the league.
“We’re under no illusions that it’s going to be a real tough afternoon, and one that we feel we are ready for as well.
“We want to put ourselves against the best and see where we are.
“We’re going to need a lot of luck and for us to be at our best to even compete, but that’s the challenge.”
Should York enjoy a win against Wycombe, they will enter the second round of the FA Cup for the second time since the 2010/11 season, having hosted Wigan Athletic last season.
That's the target for Hinshelwood, who is wary that Wycombe may see City as an easily winnable match.
“That’s going to be the challenge, we want to try and get in that draw.
“We’re then one step closer to the potential of a glamour tie in the third round, but I’m sure that Wycombe will want the same as well.
“They will want to have a nice cup run, York at home has the potential for them to go further in the competition as well.”
