Yellow Jackets fall short in first round upset

Apr. 22—THOMASVILLE — Much like their gridiron counterparts, the Thomas County Central boys soccer team faced off against St. Pius in the first round of the state playoffs. Unlike the football team, however, the Yellow Jackets fell short in a surprising 1-0 loss.

Despite the early playoff exit, Thomas County Central had a great season this year. They finished with an overall record of 10-4-2 and took second in the region at 7-3. They had several statement wins in region competition, including a 6-2 defeat of Tift County, a 5-1 win over Houston County and an impressive 6-5 win over Northside that saw the Yellow Jackets go to double overtime.

These Yellow Jackets also defeated crosstown rival Thomasville twice this season. They took down the Bulldogs 4-1 in game two of the season and faced off in the season finale, beating Thomasville 5-1.

The Yellow Jackets were also extremely successful at home. Finishing the season with a home record of 6-1-1.
