York Valkyrie to host bus parade after back-to-back Women's Super League wins
YORK Valkyrie will host an open top bus parade around the City to celebrate becoming back-to-back Women’s Super League Champions.
Both players and coaching staff of the Valkyrie will parade the Super League trophy around the City Centre, heading to the Mansion House for a civic reception of Friday, November 15.
The day will begin at 5.30pm when the bus leaves Union Terrace Coach Park, arriving to Duncombe Place at 5.45pm.
The squad will then walk to St Helen’s Square, with the club requesting that supporters gather from Duncombe Plae to St Helen’s Square.
After arriving, the Valkyrie will take part in a Celebration Ceremony with the Lord Mayor and Civic Party from 6pm.
At 7pm, the squad will assemble at Hooting Owl, where supporters are encouraged to attend to continue the incredible success of the 2024 season.
The Valkyrie defeated St Helen’s 18-8 in the Betfred Women’s Super League Grand Final in early October, becoming the first club in history to win back-to-back Women’s grand finals.
This result came without captain and Woman of Steel winner Sinead Peach, with Lindsay Anfield’s side defying the odds to defend their title.
St Helen's had already lifted the both the League Leaders' Shield and the Betfred Women's Challenge Cup earlier in the season, with Matty Smith's side deemed heavy favourites.
York showed real determination after falling behind late on, lifting the Women's Super League trophy as 2024 Woman of Steel winner George Hetherington produced an incredible performance.
